Anyone have input on SPI for a Jan/Feb trip? Is it possible to camp in the area or is it too built up?

Hi,

Jan/Feb can be good but be prepared for some cold weather. 80 degree one day, 40 the next. Some really nice wave sessions to be had when the northerlies get blowing for a couple of days.

You can camp for free out on the beach up to the north but there aren't any facilities out there at all. Maybe a trash can if you're lucky. Camping isn't allowed at the flats where everybody kites from. If you're sleeping in the back of a van you can get away with parking in out of the way places as long as you move every day.

There is also camping at Isla Blanca park at the south end of the island but it's not free. Can't remember the prices for sure but it seems like it was something like $14 or so a night. You can get a decent hotel room for $25 a night during Jan/Feb. Maybe cheaper on a weekly rate.

Carol and I should make it to Padre by the first of the year. Look us up.

Tony

yes, free camping is super easy on SPI. of course hotel rooms start at 27/night around here that time of year as well, so....

it may sound sketch, but you can definately get to the island w/o reservations, drive the island, and find dozens of places for cheap, pick whatever you like.

need more help, call air padre

that is definately the off season.

Shop for the best price and tell them so, we were able to get a double for under 25 with breakfast and the hot tub!

The taxis' are cheap.

The rent a cars will nail you for a spec of sand. if you can get to SPI with out a car, you will have no prob getting around SPI, taxi is 2.00 per person!
