For you surfboard riding people out there here is a question:

When you kite on a surfboard in the Ocean do you:

1. use a leash?

2. use a quad?

3. use a front strap?

4 use both straps?

Just wondering,

Cheers

no lease, no straps and tri fin works best for me. it all boils down to preference. try them all.

In Oregon I ride the sst and love it. I'm still looking for a pair when it comes to going strapless on the cold ocean oregon coast. I'm all over it with tt, but lack the commitment to dive in strapless at claks/shipwreck, or manzo, but have plenty of friends who are doin her daily here in Oregon. Beautiful coast, but cold.
It's been along time since I've actually surfed shorebreak. Used to love it on a tri fin 8-6 board in Muai. Those were the days.
I'm mostly asking because I'm looking to rep some boards for a company out of Ca. The line of boards that are currently on the market for kiteboarders are basically 5-8 to 6-2 tri and quad. The most recent trends being a quad set up. As I remember windsurfing, and surfing a quad/twinzer they are really twitchy and loose. I can't say that I've seen the green room on a quad, but I have on tri fin 7 footer during my pineapple years in maui. Pearls, Paia, West side...warm water can really limit your appreciation for cold water breaks. I'm gettting closer to taking the plunge thanks to Nards...
Your post answers my questions and I appreciate it. If you see me on the beach come by and demo some of my boards. I'll have anything from sups, to eggs, to short boards. It's all good in the dalles.
Cheers, Beeers and ....

Very Happy

If you wanna see the green room thrusters will be your best bet like you said. Once waves get head high plus you don't really need the speed and looseness of a quad, especially since you're also getting some pull from the kite. If you do a search on here this topic has been discussed more times than I care to remember. Bottom line, there's so many boards out there and all have different shapes and sizes and people have different tastes so it really comes down to personal preference and riding style.

Totally agree when the shit hits the fan,, strapped .(dragging around in big or uglies is asking for it)
The boards as well, 4 fins for loose shit and 3 for more hooked up
My new quad ride is only 5'8" but over 20" wide, so much fun for fukin around but on a beat in chop ,, wild!
Not nessasarily on a surfboard either although way easier to ride in mixed conditions on somthing made to ride from one end only and they are big.

But the custom TT everyone rides here are for sure the shit in the clean carving conditions , no longer than 4'6"
Not only for manuverability but safety in that the board stays with you(strapped) and stays closer in the surf (not as likely to go all the way in)
Although once the kite is gone I would much rather be on a surfboard
In general my TT for unsurfable conditions
and strapless the for the rest.
But am considering a surf style helmut(tight fitting), a short leash(just long enough to reach the board easily) hooked to the back of my harness and a big conditions Strapped surfboard(I hope my knees can take a one foot out).

bulae, be sure to put newport on the tour

Quit hating and start riding. At least you'll be able to throw some sick tricks off those ramps into warm water.

You visiting any time soon? I got some more footage for you to edit Laughing

I'm add w/ h and have a hard time staying on track so doin research is hard and asking repetitive questions is what I excel at.

Really damn soon my life will involve warm water and waves on a regular basis.

The reason I ask about the surfboards used by nwkite guys is because I wanna understand what people are doing. Really simple to figure that if you like it use fo show.

I remember the back in 06, me thinks, when I saw Top Hat walk out to the spit, hat on, and throw a 7 foot board down and launch a small kite and head straight to the bridge. Little did I know that Top was giving me a little preview of where we are now. Smaller kites and bigger boards.

Later,
Ron

Very Happy

Did anybody tell this new company you are going to rep for that you annoy most people, and maybe they should look elsewhere for a reputable rep?
