True test of the Patagonia 5 mm 'Wooly' suit.
Merino wool in a wetsuit
Pure genius.
Been out surfing 7 days in a row.
Can honestly say
I have not been anything
but comfortably warm

Never even felt a chill.
Just my face

Face felt like it was burning from the pain of cold offshores
But every other part of me was toasty.

5 mm booties
2 mm gloves
No worries.

I'm a believer.
Heading out again this morning.
Swell is way down---looks like summer....but glassy.

Wear your shortie underneath, I've done it for the last two winters. It's a pain to get the second suit on, but once its on, it keeps you plenty warm. I wore my 3/2 shortie under by 4/3 full suit.

yah, the patagonia wool gloves got holy in a couple outings...but they have an amazing guarantee on them....so no worries.

i really wish promotion could put together a wool lined suit.

a trick i've used to stay warm is wearing polypro long underwear under my 5/4/3. i think it works. anyone else tried this?

It wasn't his idea, he just adopted it. It works, but it also will stress the seams on your 4/3 and be a very tight fit and inhibit circulation.

Best to just get an winter/ocean suit.

Only problem with layering your wetsuit is the outer one will get very stretched. I don't think its a big deal if your wetsuit is older and stretched out anyway, but I wouldn't do it with a brand new suit.

Sometimes I will layer with a 1.5m shirt and shorts. Do you think this will stretch out my suits Question

I wear a 1mm WINDSTOPPER rash guard over my ocean suit. The key is stopping the wind once you have enough insulation. The rash guard takes the the sun well too. My suit is not faded because the rash guard is just about done. It is a pretty good trade off.

Yes the gloves had issues.
Booties too.
Hopefully they will work it out.

But the wetsuit is the most durable I have ever had.
And I am brutal on wetsuits.

5mm suit, over a year old, is still like new.
Won't go back to an 'average' suit again after being this warm.

Out 3 hours this morning.
Toasty the whole time.

that is impressive - doesn't get much colder than today...

do you think the wooly suit will perform as well for kiteboarding with the "refrigerator effect" from the wind?

I picked up a Patagouche early last season for those spring days out east. Im very impressed with the fit, flex, warmth and durability. This suit is defently warmer than any similar thickness suit you compare it to. Throw in a life time warranty and BAM!!! its a no brainer, especially when they go on sale at that really cool surf shop in Portland. What is it...something like GORGE PERFORMANCE. Once you get into one you wont want to wear anything else.

Just call me BIG PIMPEN WILLIS.
