Just curious.....has anyone else tried this?
Or am I the only guy kooking out on it?
Been messing around with a 3 meter trainer kite on short lines---in the bay in front of our house.
It's a trip.
If the kite crashes you wrap up the lines and paddle the soggy mess in.
No big deal.
I use an old school 12 foot windsurfer with a retractable dagger board.
The dagger board makes a difference.
If anyone has a cheap two line foil that is around 5 or 6 meters let me know.
What the hell it's winter. _________________ SPACESTICK

kook away!
the daggerboard makes sense - tried a surf style SUP and an 11m in light wind - was a bit of challenge to get going - its light, so you cant yard yourself out of the water and need to keep the kite tensioned - sort of squirmed on the board, then to knees and then stood up...
not the best upwind machine but was making it work in stupid light wind _________________ Go Deep!

| Forrest and I have done this on their SUP. Well Forrest better than I. I had to use the gman technique of basically standing up on the board, then going. A centerboard would make a world of difference. |

I made it work one day in Maui a couple of years ago when there was enough wind to keep the kite in the air but not enough to get me up on a regular board without going straight downwind.
Basically step on to the board near shore and start with very small kite movements until the board is moving or you'll get yanked off the front. Once the board gets moving you can work your way back to the tail and get your weight over the fin and then it does pretty well. Kind of like sailing a Catalina 36 as opposed to a Laser. Slow and stately but at least you're on the water!
Water starts were just a little trickier trying to get everything moving but not too bad really. Main thing is to be very gentle with the kite.

| It's pretty fun, but you need a little bit of wind to keep the kite up in the air. Turning around takes like 5 minutes but can be a blast. |
