No. And they weren't looking at their laptops. There isn't one pilot I've spoken to that believes that. |
fuk no they were bored to death, sitting there watching dials for too many hours at a time
commercial pilots have at least the most screwed up hours of anyone except perhaps resident Doctors |

this thread is bringing the crazy like few others. I guess folks really like to drive fast, and will jump through some seriously counter-factual mental hoops to justify their impatience.
Just remember (re:less of what some hypnotist might tell you) when you drive twice as fast, you need 4 times the braking distance. That's just physics.
Also, please try not to kill me or one of my relatives. You'll know us b/c we'll be the ones in the center lane driving within 5mph of the speed limit, giving you the stink eye as you slalom us on your busy way to your oh-so-important engagements. |

A friend and I helped pull people out of the car on our way back down from the mountain yesterday morning. We happened to get there before the medical teams. It was brutal. Caused by a young, inexperienced driver in a hurry to get to the mountain. Dad is dead--died in front of his wife who was pinned under him as she held his head up to try and help him breath. Kids are really badly hurt. Not sure if the 11 year old boy is going to make it. His head looked like something out of a horror movie. Young girl really badly broken up and lacerated--unable to move her head. Mom wouldn't let us pull her out until she saw all of her kids out. Last thing she did was put her cross around her dead husband's head--then she let us pull her out. Crews had to cut up the car to get the dead man out. Young driver from other car as ejected and busted up on the road. Two life flight copters required.
A lot of lives changed very much for the worse, in both cars.
Tragic, tragic, tragic.

I had reservations about posting, though poorly timed it could save a life. If you have a child behind the wheel these stats are good to know:

Just a good conversation starter to use with kids who are getting behind the wheel.
Respectfully,

Here's the deal: traffic law enforcement in this country has absolutely ZERO to do with safety. It has everything to do with revenue generation. Every study has shown that red light cameras and speed camera vans increase the accident rate. And yet they still put in more. Why? because they generate revenue. Speed traps rarely catch the dangerous speeders, rather they mostly catch motorists who are safely driving at the safe and reasonable speed for that stretch of road.
I am a big supporter of our police, and am honored to number several as my friends. I gave to police charities long before my friends told me I needed to put those stars in my window.
Traffic engineers have long known that the safest speed limit for a given stretch of road is the speed that the majority of drivers naturally tend to drive there. Setting an artificially low limit, to increase revenue from speeding tickets, tends to increase the accident rate on that road. Speed is not as dangerous as speed differential. If most people drive 75 mph, driving at 60 is just as dangerous as driving 90. Artificially low speed limits increase the speed differential and increase the accident rate. Oregon's 65 mph limit is an artificial limit designed to increase revenues at the cost of life and limb.
Other western states have 75 mph limits or higher, and similar stretches of road have been shown to have lower accident rates than their Oregon counterparts.
I'm not condoning driving 100 mph on I84. But getting a ticket for doing 75, when that's the typical speed east of Portland, is not reasonable.
The biggest flaw with our traffic laws is that the municipality that writes the ticket gets to keep the money. If all the revenue generated by minor speed infractions went into an independent state fund designed to improve traffic safety, I'd get rid of my radar detector. As long as speed laws are written only with an eye to raising funds and with complete disregard for safety, I will practice civil disobedience. |
Amen to that NAK. It makes me feel good that there are plenty of people like you out there that are smart enough to figure this out. Either that, or you are a loyal C/D reader! |

this is the rule about checking your laptop while flying? (another hypnosis prevention thing, right?)
No. And they weren't looking at their laptops. There isn't one pilot I've spoken to that believes that.
Being a retired nwa pilot and out of the pilot scuttlebutt loop, what is the consensus of what happened up there? Yes,, I have had heated discussions up there and other various distractions. Yes, I have missed a radio freq transfer. And yes I have wanted to over fly Msp in January. I now work for the FAA and I am here to help you.[ just kidding]! _________________ moondog |

here's another online law buster
stealing id
great huh ,
I recently met a woman (nurse/not a thief )whos' car was stolen
in it was a way to steal her life (clever but very simple scheme)
a simple piece of info ,(not what you would think either)
she went from a 750 credit rating to a 450 rating
will keep the 450 for 6+ more years ,she was not held responsible for $1000's stolen
local police the fbi and county mounties all said she's innocent
One transaction took place while she was in surgery and was crucial in proving her not being involved in the scheme.
The word as I hear it is that the former administration was lagging on electronic thievery prevention and the current one has not addressed this issuse either.
So if the clever minds put themselves on this they could easily create a program to find out who the folks are that have some money and are stupid enough to get it taken from them ,,,,,,,or not.
I will join the group and post a cop on every corner |

I agree. The cops should spend less time going after speeders and more time protecting us from criminals. _________________ Cleverly disguised as an adult...
