Sun Nov 08, 09 9:42 am Impact Vest or Not? |
|
|
Is an impact vest worth the expense?
If so ... any recommendations of Brand/Model?
I am an intermediate, just starting to get into some bigger jumps and rolls. Would rather not break a rib, but do these vests really give much protection?
Thanks in advance. |

I vote no. Not worth the expense or the weight. Fly free, stay loose, you'll be fine!

I vote yes!
I use the dakine impact harness, and I've taken many huge spills and never had sore ribs, plus the extra flotaion is always nice! |

Ditto that! I wear a Liquid Force one and really like it. And sure, its arguable that it really does anything, but I like the peace of mind. |

And add another ditto. I also like the added warmth they can provide in the colder months. _________________ CGKA Member

I would say definitely yes but get a really comfortable one. The new dakine vests feel like body armour i.e. I don't like them at all.
I had a jb webb pullover that I really loved until someone stole it. I would look at a pullover kind if you want to get one. |

Peace of mind and what makes you confident riding is what is important!
If your really lean and don't float well, then I'd get one; especially if your learning. .
I don't find that mine inhibits my movement, but they do add weight, especially when they get wet. They are also a pain to travel with when packing for air travel and a bit in the car. . .
Also, as stated above, they do add to insulation when riding in the cold and can be hot in hot environments like tropical. Here in the NW, one can just dunk themselves in the water to cool off as much as needed if they are too hot.
My three cents worth. |
