If you haven't been to Viento lately, then you are missing out on something. Serious improvments are afoot.

I, as a representative of the CGKA, had been working with Andrew (Oregon State Park Ranger) on some ideas and plans for improving and expanding the kite launching situation at Viento, but we had been having a hard time getting our schedules to match.
Anyways, I had been thinking to myself that we wouldn't be able to make any improvments until next year, but I was wrong.

Andrew (along with help from the campground host) has already begun removing about 90% of the trees and bushes that had been in our way along the shoreline. The work is not done, but wow, is it a big improvment. Tekko, Nate and I all launched off the beach and found the launch to be waaaaaaaayyyy better. There are still a lot of roots and nubs, along with some stumps, but it looks like Andrew is still in the midst of digging out a lot of this and flattening out the landscape.

I'll be checking in with Andrew and posting updates as I get them, but in the meantime, if you are ever at Viento, now or in the future, and come across a ranger who goes by the name Andrew, please make sure to tell him a big "THANK YOU!" and let him know how much you appreciate the consideration and support .

FYI - Andrew is a newby kiter and would like to truly see Viento become a much more popularly utilized location for local and visiting kiters, as well as all other recreational users.

PS - Thanks Nate and Tekko for being my wingmen today and helping to motivate on an awesome kite session that I would have really regretted missing.

Pepi

Sweet! good to have a dialed launch for those epic downwinders.... I used to work at that park a long time ago and always wanted to cut some stuff down...

Stoked CGKA, Andrew and host are taking care of the dirty work, nice work! Good to see things in motion.

Good job Andrew and Pepi, I launched from Viento on Wed. east winds. I ended up downwind, and the walk of shame back was much better now that all branches and shrubs have been trimmed. The work that's been done will greatly improve safety and help immensely with the downwinders to the sandbar.

Thanks

Joe

There was nothing wrong with the launch prior to the landscaping...... Now I have to find another sketchy launch that people will avoid...... Shocked Very Happy Wink

west wind = Vien-terd; often psycho-gusty, but a great place to launch for a downwinder.
east wind = light/steady goodness when it's much windier at Stevenson and Rooster
