Wow. GREAT ponds session. Lit on my 7. Very, very nice solo. I really don't understand why people call it quits so early. Days like today are why I love kiteboarding. I was toasty warrm too...

Ponds looked good!
Very tempting.
But the surf was insane.

I was just wondering, where are these "ponds" near Astoria? I'm in Longview, dagerously close and itching to get out. Please enlighten, where are these blissful ponds, and which sensors should I be watching, and for which direction?

Thanks,
J

I know, wasn't trying to rub it in. It's just that so many people are done for the year, it amazes me. I'm on the road half the month, so for every great weekday session I get in, there's a great weekend session I miss... Confused

Sorry about no pics for the day, the only other two riders were leaving just as I got there. ( Thanks for the heads up guys! )

Hass, it's the ponds at Ft Stevens, Parking lot D. Do a search here, lots of info on the spot. Very Happy

Works on almost all sunny strong east days all the way through winter. Water gets F'ing cold though, but most of the time the air is very warm.

The Ponds are in parking lot D in Ft Stevens State Park. You walk about 75 yards down a wood foot bridge. It opens up to a good sized sandy peninsula. You launch and land right there. Just be careful its technically offshore winds so be sure you can stay upwind if you are riding there. Water is very shallow at low tide so be aware of your surroundings.

spots near you:

http://www.nwkite.com/guides/sunset_beach/

the ponds work on East wind - respect the outgoing tide - don't get sucked out around the corner and into the inlet - next stop China
