Hey forum. Two boards are for sale that are certainly priced low. What's the consensus on either being an appropriate purchase for a 5'10" 200lb newbie buying his first board?..

2006 Liquid Force (138cm) Kiteboard for $150.

2005 SX Slingshot (136cm) kiteboard. 6 fins for $150.

Your feedback always appreciated.

-Marcus

The bigger the better usually. What model LF is it? Probably go with the 2006 anyways since boards were changing a lot year to year at that time

Go with the drop. Its a bit wider if I remember correct which should really help you with the learning curve.

I was actually going to say stay away from the drop.

I guess it's an ok board to learn on, and it's cheap,
but you'll be wanting a new board pretty soon,
and won't be able to re-sell it.
Just more info...

have you looked on ikitesurf.com classifieds?
A lot of times, there are great deals on
great used boards over there.

That is a great board! Make sure there is no cracking along the seems towards to middle of the board.

LF for sure

Is there any pics of the SX? Being that it's listed as a 6 fin (unless you get 2 extras), it sounds more like an '03 which would be pretty dated in design/shape/etc.

Drop was sweet! Was going to echo what Adam said about the 6 fin Slingshot, that sounds much older than 2005

No dissin my 2003 SX - it is timeless with 4 fins an no third nipple (maybe 2002)

For $50 more you can get some 2008/2010 tech Very Happy , really way to small for your weight though.

You can get into a BRAND NEW board for just over 3 bills at 2nd Wind in Hood River right now. Friend just got a great deal on a new Liquid Force board there. Why buy old tech when you can get the new goods for a little more. Just my 2cents, but its worth spending a bit more now that will last you a lot longer. I've always bought good first, and avoided having to rebuy 6 mos later. Been a good investment on all kite gear I've got.

I rode an SX 136 as my beginner board and still enjoy it, but I'm 180 lbs and it's not good in light winds. I'd lean toward toward the LF. I bought my SX from 2nd Wind with advice and a great deal from Pepi, and we're heading into the off-season where bargains will be had. Don't limit yourself to the Drop because you've found stuff that's cheap and available - get what fills your needs or you'll have buyer's remorse.

I'm 175lb and in my second year of kiting. I've riden the LF Drop 132 and a LF 134( don't remember the 134 model.) did not enjoy as much as the SX I currently am riding an 2005 SX137 great board for beginner to intermident. Goes up wind quite easily, very little rocker. It could use a little more flex in the tips, but that would be a different model. I just like to ride it. I have acsess to several other boards, but tend to grab the SX. It just easy to ride.
