Mon Aug 31, 09 5:23 pm twin tips with out handles |

I KNOW it's very cool to remove your handle from you twintip board but if you're still a kook be aware that it makes it MUCH harder to pick up your board and bring it to you when you lose it. Of course it will remove 3 to 4 ounces of weight which will make a HUGE difference in performance.. PLEASE, get a grip......

I'll second this! So much easier to rescue someones board when it has a handle on it. Never understood the handles aren't cool thing. It's not like it's a big ol' GoJoe or anything.
It's kind of like the snowboarders at the mountain who drag their board across the concrete and rocks because they're too cool to pick it up. That little handle ain't gonna make or break your steeze.

For me removing the handle has nothing to do with looking cool and everything to do with convenience when traveling, packing. I just don't see the point in removing it and putting it back on every time I take a trip.....
Sometimes there are practical reasons for doing things both ways. Not everyone spends all there time trying to look cool.

It is certainly much easier to carry your board WITH a handle!
And they can make them out of some pretty light material.
Heck, they don't even have to be made of hard plastic material...I'm sure slingy could make one that holds a rigid shape but when you release some velcro it'd flatten out nice for travel (similar to their two piece foot straps).
I think it is mostly that it isn't cool, and it is to the manufacturer's benefit to leave out a couple inserts during production.

First: I put my handle back on so I can bring back board offs- fuck yea!!@
Second: if you're having trouble rescuing someones board, try putting your hands through the footstraps! I've also switched boards, ride theirs and use "your" handle. great way to "demo" a board.
Third: Thanks to ANYONE who brings a board back to the sandbar. Although sometimes I like my students to get their own board.
That is all,
Mike

i don't have a handle on my board. not because it is the cool thing to do but, because i buy my boards blank usually. i have pads/straps that i really like and usually just switch those onto whatever board i buy. i don't think i have had a handle for a few years now.
i see your point about carrying though. thanks to any/all who have grabbed a board without a handle to help someone out.

i never even thought of riding his board and carrying mind (Duh), Great idea!! I'm not talking about someone who makes their own boards or needs to pack them tight, I'm talking about a young person who took the handle off their board because it was cool and didn't even know how to work his way up the safety and re hook into his kite.. Thanks to the guy who came up while I was trying to tow the released kite back to the sandbar and showed me how to tow the kite in...

I'm a handle fan....one of my boards.."crazyFly"~~ DID NOT have a handle...so, I made one out of washing machine hosing ( cut to correct length).....drilled holes on each end + then screwed them in where inserts for footstraps where..
It's kinda funky looking...+ lays flat~ but works like a charm when i need it...
ps- taking this board to Hatteras + will be sellling at swap meet down there

I think it's time for a good ole wakestyle jab in the ribs.
It's a board not a suitcase!
If you put boots on your board, you wouldn't need to provide anyone with a grab handle.

But if you don't have a handle, where do you attach your go-joe?

And if it’s a strapless surf/skimboard?

Da Dawg likes the straps just for this reason:

| The stiff handles used on most boards actually alter the flex characteristics of the board. Think of the handle as a truss that limits the flex for the width of the handle. Remove it = more flex through the middle. A slingshot SX or Misfit flexes and pops differently with and without a handle. Try it for yourself!

+1 for handles.
They make life much easier in the surf when I am trying to get back on before I get pounded by the next wave.

handles are about as gay as another pair of handles most people put on their boards.
