Here is a basic break down.
$350 for intro course
$1500 for P2 rating (needed to be able to jump pretty much anywhere)
harness $700ish
Wing $3500

Of course you can find used wings and gear. If you take your lessons and purchase from the same guy you get a deal as well.

Probably other stuff I am spacing but that's the basics. Unlike kiting, a single wing will suffice untill you want to do Acro or Long Distance ect.

What's involved in the P2 rating? How many Hours? .....Do you have to pass a flight test? Are there wings that are good to grow into that might cross over into Acro? Sounds like the wings might be good for several years of use.

As a bare minimum you need 8 hours of ground school. flight basics, weather, flight dynamics, reserve deployment, ect. 25 flights or more, 5 flying days. You will have to do a couple test, and quite a bit of wing handling.
It seems to be a pretty complete starting point. Of course, as they say, a P2 is license to learn.

As for one wing doing everything.... Someone else could answer that better than me. I understand if you get a 1-2 (rating system) wing it will do ALOT. I think you would be happy with one wing for some time.

Come up and give it a try...

It only cost you $350 for the weekend, or was it more for the rentals etc..

$350 is for the "midweek" intro. I think weekends are $395. Yes that includes everything. You can stay at the Ranch for $10/night. Bring your own food ect.

Wow, I had no idea it was that cheap. Compared to a couple of kite lessons that is a steal.

Most people seem to have one wing. I have a quiver because I like to ridge soar and wagga in higher wind conditions too.

It's a function of time. And it's totally subjective as far as HOW Many Hours. If you are a quicker learner and show pilot proficiency, you progress and a more steady pace.

To become a P-2 there is reading, schooling, testing 64 questions. You should have had time to discuss weather. And Many other topics related to decision making. Pre-flight, flight plans, spot landing, good reverse inflations, clean running with wing over head. Lots of kiting, with a glider.
Lots of weather:
Cloud types to stay clear of. Cu Nims, verga, mamata, any precip frming rapid development. Wave Clouds?
How lift is created and complications like huge cloud suck, lift obsturctions, laps rates in cycles.
Understand Air and it fluidity, all the types of obstructions.
You need to know when not to fly.
Make a choice in what type of flying you want to do and take the steps to prepare.
you need to know how not to stall while thermaling, and what to do if a less than obvious situations arise.

Topics for P2 are endless, it's easy to go on and on, but if you are going for XC, then understanding how to read sectional aeronautical maps, and start learning all of the FAA regulations and comparisons to other air craft are pretty sweet.

GROWING INTO A WING: that isn't a great way to learn, but some areas like the coast have smooth air that keeps one from being totally surprised. You'd certainly want to speak with you instructor and get strong recommendations before you get totally crazy with your CC.

Most wings will do more than most pilots care to try! I've flown mostly DHV 1-2 and they will pull 4 or 5 g's easy, and if you learn how, some silly acro stuff is possible.

Hmmmm, here is a little video of a flight today in Lienz, AUS. The hard ground kept the fun limited to basic ACRO stuff like SAT's, wingovers, and Loops. But fun was definitely had!

Mark, you should check out the Odyssey. All they do is Kite, Paraglide, and Dive.
They have a 3000' winch on the boat.

Bams; did you meet up with Gavin & Jody over there?

Nope, I have not yet hooked up with the Odyssey... But, I will eventually.

Gavin and Jody were the peeps that actually introduced me to paragliding when they were living it my place in Hood River. Two of the BEST PEOPLE in da world, and now that I am unemployed, I am hoping to finally take them up on the offer to join them on the boat.

Freaking gonna show them how to Tumble on a paraglider! OKAY, late in Austria. Ich bin DRUNK, and need to get into bed to fly tomorrow.

Got my P2 rating. More involved training than I would have guessed. Looking on the ozone web site at the wing I want. Here is the video:

http://www.flyozone.com/paragliders/en/products/gliders/buzz-z/watch-the-video/

I guess I will be uber suave and get laid allot! (video doesn't even show the wing!)
