Many thanks in advance to anyone who can provide some helpful advice.

I am looking at getting a new board. I have a basic 134 TT. Thinking lightwind or directional that could be used in lightwind.

Some suggestions I've had are: Mostly Slingshot.
Lightwind: Slingy SX 157 or Glide
Directional: Slingy SRT (challenge of a directional is enticing, but maybe I should work on other basics a little longer and traveling with it is a drawback)

Wondering about a OR Mako, but heard they don't go upwind really well.

Background:

Lower Intermediate - Upwind is cake, basic transitions are smooth, just started to consistently stick basic jumps. Big guy - 6'4", 210lbs. I've got a 9m and 13m quiver.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

There's basically two classes of big twin-tips. Doors such as the Spleene Door and Slingshot Glide. These boards have no rocker and are basically rectangles. If you're really desperate to ride these will get you going in a bit less wind.

The second class are bigger boards that have a bit of rocker and shape like the Liquid Force WLF (WLF are pretty well priced too). These are more fun to ride because they ride and pop more like normal boards, but they require a bit more wind.

If you can only get going on a Glide or Door I would say it's not really worth kiting. The best light wind weapon is probably a skim if you're willing to give that a shot, but otherwise I think something like the WLF 145x45 would be fun for you. I've ridden one and it actually pops pretty well for such a big board. On the Glide I can boost some, but wakestyle or more technical tricks don't really work too well since it's hard to pop the board well.

Have heard some people enjoyed the bigger Mako, but have no experience with it.

Mako Wide makes going upwind ridiculously easy. It is great beginner board, but has some limitations. Here is a bit of my experience with Mako.

Check with Pepi at 2nd wind.
