OK, Since a friend paced Cory from Viento to The Hatchery in his van at 45-50 mph, did any of you contestants take a GPS along?
Cory.....did you take along a GPS? You were cooking from what I heard. |

| I think the big advantage Cory has on the water skis is that he can go almost directly downwind. By doing so, his top speed would be limited by the wind speed as his apparent wind approaches zero. If he was doing 45-50mph dead downwind in 20-30mph winds, he would have finished well ahead of his kite. |

General theory used to hold that a sail craft could double the wind speed, but many broken speed records already show that factor is too conservative. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apparent_wind |

| True, but that is sailing across the wind, and the point of this race is to sail basically dead downwind. |

I suppose if you knew the actual distance you could use Cory's time (1:04:07) to calculate his average speed.
I'm still waiting for someone to do the blowout with a hydro-foiled craft... |

True, but not in a sail powered craft. At least not that I have seen. |
