Tried backrolls for the first time yesterday, get around fine but on landing have lost all power in my kite, well except for once when I think I indadvertantly looped the kite as halfway through the rotation got yarded and pulled down to the water head first and upside down Sad .

Any advice? Figure I am doing something wrong with my steering just havent figured it out yet as obviously not watching my kite while spinning around.

Be sure to keep your hands on the center of the bar. This should help keep the kite from moving as much. If the kite drifts up in the window you are going to land soft with no power. If you keep the kite closer to 45 degrees you will land with power and speed to ride away from the trick.

It also helps to pop off a piece of chop if you are underrotating at first.

As you do your rotation slightly pull with your front hand to keep the kite low/powered.

I keep my hands in the center of the bar, but for some reason if I don't give it very small tug with my front hand my kite goes up to 12 and I loose power. It must be my natural instinct to dangle.

Yea what they said but it is easier to learn a back spin first using the kite to lift you instead of a load and pop, lightly send the kite to 12 not past then pull the bar as if to jump then when 1/2 way around throw the kite with forward hand which will pull out and with speed. Atleast that is what I do, but I am new this year and just started doing this a 10' but lower is fun too.

I was working with my friend on these a couple months ago. Very common to crank on the back hand without even realizing it.

I finally just said LET GO of your back hand once your in the air.. After that he was peggin the landings! Plus you get flare points for the "one-hander"!

Thumb's Up

Come to think of it I may have been releasing the wrong hand (front hand) as I would look over my shoulder. Thanks for the tips
