For those who ride C-kites when you unhook how much power do you leave on the bar? Say it is steady wind would the pull start 5 or so inches from the CL? In gustier wind depower/sheet in a little more? Question 2 what should be the first trick Raley, send the kite or something else? I have been pussyfooting around with unhooked but i think it is time to grab the bull by the horns Laughing and get my ass kicked some more Very Happy . Once there is wind Evil or Very Mad thanks Exclamation

Yeah buddy!
Just don't oversheet the kite.
Get it to where the wingtips are about to flare out but not past that point.
As far as tricks go, get the feeling of loading and popping unhooked with your kite in one place before going for anything.
Too many people go straight into trying raileys and stuff and it ends up looking like crap because they don't actually know how to pop.

Set the trim strap as you pull the bar down to full power, So that when your bar hits the chicken loop, You can cleat the strap. This will give you less bar pressure but make sure your speed is up or you may find yourself underpowered as you edge against the kite.

Perry, Andrew is right, its all about the POP! When I am really lit I typically edge hard and pop immediately after I unhook, its one continuous motion. downwind, unhook, load and explode.

If you wait to long to edge, you can get pulled into the "toilet stance" and you can't really load from there.

Pay attention to your speed when your edging. You want to maximize the amount of tension in the lines when you edge but if you hold the edge to long you will slow down pretty fast.

Lastly, to a large extent its about just nutting up and doing it. I guarantee that if you come in screaming, load-pop- and stick it. You'll never want to unhook when your underpowered cause its no where near as fun. Don't worry if your super juiced, as soon as you leave the water the tension eases up.

have fun!!
