Is anyone going to the jetty this weekend. I am thinking about going and it will be my first time. Are there any local rules I should know. Or are there any pointers anyone could give me before I go. It looks like the forecast is for 15 to 25 knots, I should be ok with a 10m and surfboard / twin. Thanks for the help all.

don't get eaten

few things
- watch the rip next to the jetty - can suck out pretty strong - try not to lose your board there

- respect riders going down the line - rider on the wave riding downwind has priority

- have fun and that don't get eaten part

always bring a seven and a five meter... good luck with the 10

if you parkon the jetty itself don't bother paying the parking fee unless you need the bathrooms then you must pay.

its not a very accomadating site no luxury accomedations.

Looking at the forecast, you better get there early if a ten is your smallest kite. *Lots* of people end up riding 7m or smaller when they call for 20 knots or more.

Otherwise, common sense wave riding rules apply, like GMan said. Ideally, it all flows around in a big circle. If you ignore this pattern you will gum up the works, but people will probably be nice to you anyway.

Hey Duckfoot,
The jetty is awesome but listen to pjc for sure. If the forecast is for 20 it will be more like 30. If Forecast is 14 it blows like 25. I weight 150 lbs. and have been on my 6m the last 2 times I went in the late afternoon.
Small kites for sure. The 10m is a bit large, so get there early before it starts to build in the afternoon.
Twin tip good especially if your a bit overpowered. The combo of surfboard with a lot of float and a kite thats too big is not fun. I wear a leash there ( and a helmet) to minimize my body dragging time (aka - chumming). Also the outflow eddy current made by the jetty tends to grab boards and send them out towards Maui.
-But short of that its a great place. I will be there on Mon. , Tues, and Wed. this week.
I will be the one in the orange helmet flying a red kite.
See you there.
Peace,
Enrique

Yeah, unfortunately where I used to live all I needed was a 10 so its all I have. Now that I live here I think I am going to have to build out my quiver a little more. Thanks for all of the info guys I really appreciate it.

I think your chances are better to punch a whale... plus its not as risky.

lol yeah back at my old kite spot it was right next to a elephant seal rookery. Also for about a week last august there was a white sighted almost every day for a month in the lineup. We joked that by kiting getting more popular was a good thing by collectively reducing our odds of getting munched by increasing the number of bait.
