I know many of you are current or former windsurfers like myself, but I've seen a bunch of you poking fun at "pole dancers" on this very forum (gasp!). Pretty funny stuff, actually, but remember Karma when you're treading water and wrapping lines on the north side of the channel drifting towards Portlandia.
Any of you see that guy get dragged across the river tonight? Another guy on the shore with me got pictures and we went and talked to the poleboarder. Since I've done this before I can attest to the bicep workout, and it turns out this kid was pretty buff and young (like, a third the age of your average event site windsurfer! ). The kiter was no lightweight, and I'd say owes him a good six-pack of something mildly better than PBR. A bunch of jet skiers even went out and tooled around and basically ignored him.
Just remember, that old fart in the way on your upwind tack to the bridge may just be the youngster who drags your sorry ass back down when the wind dies... |

I'll throw in a shout-out to Windsurfer Knox!
Greeting every Manzo visitor with a heaping dose of pole-board stink eye!
Keep holding it down Knox! There's a pecking order out there and Windsurfers will always be at the top! (Just under the Surfers!) |

Never forget the roots of our kiteboarding sport!!
It was windsurfers that were the largest contributors to the development of kiteboarding in the beginning. All of the original shredders and designers were poleboarders with the exception of Cory Roessler and Flash.
If it wasn't for guys like Robby Naish, Pete Cabrina, Elliot Leboe, Lou Wainman and dozens of other poleboarders this sport of kiteboarding could still be back in the day of a few outcasts trying to make 2 line foils and 7' surfboards work. |

| For sure the windsurfers have done more than we will probably ever accomplish. If you ever head to Roosevelt and see how nice that place is. Well, that is all the hard work of the windsurfers. Word on the street was that place was a big patch of dead lawn with rotting buildings that the Corps had decided to close until they got their hands on it. |
