I've heard rumors of sharks on the coast, but never saw one myself or heard anecdotal evidence... http://www.sharkresearchcommittee.com/pacific_coast_shark_news.htm. Anyone here ever see a shark on the coast? Apparently there's a fair number of great whites that make it up here. That site has a great white reporting from yesterday on sunset beach

Lightning is just a myth, it's not even real. And I don't think sharks are a threat on the coast given the extremely low volume of attacks, but what I am scared of and what is a big problem on the coast are hidden dog mines on the beach

there is a new test for sharks in the water that I have found very useful.
You taste the water, and if you can detect salt, there are sharks.

| My manager has a house on the beach near Garibaldi and last summer a baby salmon shark washed up on his beach. At first they thought it was a great white, but turned out to be a salmon shark....they are almost identical. They surf all the time and would absolutely say yes that there are sharks on the oregon coast and it is something to be aware of! Just sayin!

I see sharks almost every time I'm at the coast, there's a lot of sharks on the coast especially along the southern coast.

That shark report is for Sunset Beach in California.
So Cal has the most great white sightings of all the states.
And millions of bobbing surfers.

Yup - So Cal has alot of sightings.
Think I'll stay away from San O/ Trestles for a week or so. 6 sightings in the last week - 9 in the last couple .

Lightning is definitely the dumber fear, especially if you're on the southern OR coast. I had a female roommate a number of years back who took up surfing one summer. She was out every weekend, except every fourth weekend or so she would stay in town. Took me a while to figure out why that was...
