What is the protocol for meeting up with folks kiteboarding downwind along sunset beach (north coast). Is there a typical spot to leave a vehicle?

Then ride downwind to the ship. Look for somebody and bum a ride. There are usually tons of people there for just that reason. I would introduce yourself and then ride!

What is the best time to ride downwind? Do you look for wind around 20mph on the north coast?

The ship is not downwind, and I would not just introduce yourself and go ride, that is ridiculous!! Set up a ride before hand then start at shipwreck or lot b and ride down to sunset turn off. del ray, or the gearhart exit if you got 4 wheel drive. Laughing It is not that good out here tho. I would just buy a set of boots and ride around the spit, or maybe Sauvies. Razz

The wind is light early and then clicks in around 3pm to 5pm.

It's a good idea to go with somebody who knows the area first, but if you are alone introduce yourself to somebody coming in. A great way to do that is shuttle somebody from ship wreck to lot A, B or where they need to go.

The coast can be intimidating and you should not expect anyone to help you out. Your on your own out there so be careful and ready.

... Thats assuming a NW wind, which is usually what we have. Today was alternating s / sw... I'm on my phone, if I was on my pc I'd post a link to the map. I think you can get there from the navvy up top.
