How does one get sponsored by a local shop?

I was thinking about this the other day and I was curious what the requirements are. I know there's quite a few guys and maybe some gals on here too that are either sponsored/hooked up or were riding for a shop at some point.

what are the perks and the disadvantages to being sponsored?

I'm not trying to say I'm at the point where I'd be eligible for it. I'm more or less just asking how you get there.

It's much easier to get sponsored by the State:

Three squares and a cot, for any of your odd but Gross enough misdemeanors...

easy as pie.

The other thing is getting harder everyday is what I'm thinking..

good luck

Buy lots of stuff from them. Eventually they'll start giving you a discount and calling you a team rider.

Oh yeah, for that last part you have to be good...

I recommend proving your loyalty with lots of stickers on your car/gear/person....
If that doesn't work, get a tattoo of the stickers

an fyi - 90% of the guys that are "sponsored" are really just getting good deals on kites... there are very few out there that are getting free gear

yep I know this.

I actually had some friends that were semi pro and pro wakeboarders. for them it was kinda the opposite problem. they would get paid in gear but what they actually needed was a paycheck for there more then full-time wakeboarding job.

I don't need a sponsorship nor do I want to try and live off of one. it just sounds kinda fun to get involved with a company

Get involved in your community and try to improve kiting for everyone around you. You never know where that will lead.

Most sponsored riders started out as fluffers.

Fluffers?

Not sure I follow what you're sayin there monkey?

btw I should mention I live on the west side of puget sound so the local kiting community is mainly comprised of people traveling here from Seattle and probably about a bakers dozen worth of true locals
