Mon Jun 22, 09 3:33 pm Need portland based kite repair - recomendations? |
|
|
I have a 3/4 of an inch tear on the LE of my waroo. I need it repaired by this weekend - and the guy I normally go to is not available. Can anyone recommend a reliable person in the portland area? I would go to airtime - but there is no practical way I can get it to them and get it back by next weekend (without having to pay large overnight shipping fees).
Thanks. _________________ Still rockin gojos, *ssless chaps, and ankle weights! |

I tried to use this guy last year. He is/was located in East Beaverton/West Portland. I gave him my kite to fix, he then had some fluke lofting at the beach and came down and injuried both his wrists. So I don't know if he is around and or his quality of work, but I believe he did a good job from stories/threads on this form.

He might not be in town. I got an email from him at the end of May:

Hi Steve,
... I am out of the area and will be for a while (now I am in Corpus and we have had great wind). It is open ended at this point. I am applying for jobs and will hurry back for an interview, but no sense hanging near when the phone isn't ringing. Corpus is proving to be inexpensive and windy.
cheers,

3/4'' of tear isn't that big. If you don't have the time and need a fix before next weekend, then get some sail tape. Access the inside of the LE thought the zipped where LE are installed, and place a rounded piece of sail tape against the LE. Then overlap a tear on the outside of the LE with another piece of sail tape of similar size. I did this once on an older kite and it lasted for a couple of seasons. This should work at least till you have to take it to Airtime. . . Remember to rub the LE tear area with rubbing alcohol before putting on the tape and place tape onto surface after the area has dried. |

UPS it Ground to Airtime on Tuesday - Arrives on Wednesday (Next day for about $7 )
Tell Airtime your need it back by Friday and they will put it in a locker for you and tell you the combination of the locker.
Pick it when you get there Friday before 8PM or Saturday between 8AM and 8PM.
UPS ground local is cheap and fast....
I also have repair tape if you need some and can make it to Hillsboro. _________________ www.cautionkites.com

Thanks everyone. I have used Sessionshaper before on a number of ocasions - he's my go to guy on repairs. however, he is out of town and can't fix it right now. So i am trying to explore other options. I taped up the LE with some repair tape and then duct tape over that. It held for a session. Its still holding - just don't want to push my luck - especially if I end up slamming it unhooked or something. _________________ Still rockin gojos, *ssless chaps, and ankle weights! |
