Fri Jun 19, 09 2:00 pm Flying to gear to Dominican |

We are leaving sunday for a last minute 10day trip to the Dominican Republic. I know Cabarete is the famous wind spot and our airline, Jet Blue, is saying no kiteboards allowed on their flights. This seems insane. Has anyone travelled there with gear recently with any advice? We will be 1/2 the time in Cabarete and the other 1/2 in a place on the south east coast called La Romana. Anyone know if there is any good kiting on the DR other than in Cabarete?

You should go to the Kite store this wknd. and get yourself one of those new fancy kiteboard specific "GOLF" bags that say NAISH GOLF or NSI , DAKINE GOLF then put your goods in there.
Throw a sand wedge in for good measure. Thats what they were designed for the airlines dont charge you for golf clubs. Just a bag charge.
Also good kiting east of Cabarete in Las Terenas. The locals can tell you. Less crowded not as much of a scene there though. But still cool and windy !
La Romana on south coast is nice for beach but no wind on that side of island that I could find. Take the day trip to Piscina Natural and Isla Saona. beautiful $ 60 USD all day trip with booze and food incl. Tours leave from all the beach hotels daily.
Local rum is Brugal the one on the yellow fishnet and clear bottle is the better one (aged).
Bring me a bottle !
Have a good time.
Peace,

Brugaaaal!!!! Good stuff!
Never flown JetBlue but most airlines you can get a board on by calling it beach toys or worst case say skim board. Take fins, pads, and straps off and put them in a separate bag. We usually put everything but boards into a regular suitcase so the airline doesn't see what we've got. Read the fine print on the baggage rules and just make sure to call it something that they accept.
Have fun!
