I've never done a downwinder from Viento and am thinking about going this afternoon (3:30pm) . Any advice? If anyone wants to group up with us, please PM me.
Thanks,

fun downwinder. Make sure you have GOOD skills. You will go thru several ups and downs with the wind. It will really pick up as you go past the swell area. Also the waves really can pick up thru there. Add a bunch of (not to happy) windsurfers....
There are very few chances to get out along the river. Make sure you have a buddy system.
Its challenging but a ton of fun. _________________ Cleverly disguised as an adult...

Always a buddy system.
When you first launch at Viento, you'll think this is the crappiest wind imaginable. But once you've gone around the corner a mile or two east, it really picks up and steady's out.
We try and launch with someone wading into the water with the kite because it's so punchy at Viento. _________________ CGKA Member

| I would love to make it a go! My first try at Viento to the spit was a failure if not for the skidoo that was available. Took Me 2hrs to go 1 mile, as the reality of pointing my board dwnwnd was not as forthcoming as the concept. Much of what I had been practicing all along was to stay upwind! I've been practicing toe side turns from the hook to the spit since and still don't have my left side down, and I've been working on speed, both which would make the Viento trip much easier. I surely wouldn't mind practicing on that dwnwndr again. R u familiar with the Stevenson to Home Valley dwnwndr? I hear the take out has to be right on, but that the waters can be more foregiving? Pm me and maybe we can attack it together?[/code] |

Yeah, I think I am going to reconsider. I need to be more organized - get a jet ski involved. I want to do the Stevenson DW'r but after the head-crackin incident recently, I'm leary. I would love to launch from the hatch, but the rocks & current are intimidating. I'm such a wuss.

Better a wuss than a headline. Besides, i too often jump in headfirst...a little pain never hurts...just hard on the psyche.
I still plan to head out today. Wanna start at The Hook and practice some? ...Brian will launch us. |
