WASSON TOPS FIELD OF THIRTY-FOUR
May 28, the third race night of a 12 night schedule saw 34 racers launch from a foggy and cold Crissy Field….so what else is new you say? Winds ranged from a low of 9-20 to a high of 15-23 with gusts to 27…with holes appearing intermittently across the course and at the windward mark, and to complicate matters a flood by the third race. Most competitors were on 11-13s.

With two time former Champion Anthony Chavez (Naish) on assignment in Korea and former Champion Jeff Kafka (Cabrinha) doing race committee (and building a new boaRd), former podium winners Chip Wasson (Ozone) and Geoff Headington (Ozone) have taken command of the 2009 Cabrinha Race Series with veterans John Gomes (Cabrinha) and Stefaans Viljoen (Ocean Rodeo) in pursuit. Paulo Rista (Cabrinha) a drop in from Paia, Maui was in Mexico, but in his two race nights has finished second and third.

Tonight, it was ALL Chip Wasson with three bullets and a total score of 3 points (1,1,1). Chip won convincing over the fleet and second place finisher, Geoff Headington, who had three seconds for a total of 6 points (2,2,2). Wasson’s margin of victory ranged between 20 and 40 seconds. Third overall for the evening was John Gomes with a total of 12 points (4,4,4).
Of particular note, three different riders captured a third place finish in each of the three races: Frank Wittke (F-one), Stefaans, and Adam Vance (Naish).

The next race night is scheduled for June 11, and will also mark the conclusion of the first mini series (first four nights of racing with one throw out)

The Cabrinha Race Series is sponsored by Cabrinha, Ozone Travel, Adventure Sports Miami , and hosted by the St. Francis Yacht Club.
