Hello NWKiters!

A very warm thank-you to all the local Gorge riders for this past weekend of good times on the water, you guys have a very welcoming and friendly attitude! Thanks!

I'm hoping to extend some Canadian hospitality back to all y'all and encourage as many of you as possible to join us at Nitinat Lake for this year's Windfest. Held each August Windfest this year will be August 13th-16th. Historically we have seen a strong presence of NWKiters come up and I would love to see that continue.

Ocean Rodeo is the title sponsor for the event each year. However, we do not do a lot in regards to organization so I can't answer specific questions. What I can tell you is that if you decide to come be aware that you will be camping for the weekend and that the community of Nitinat does not sell alcohol, so byob and bring some extra as the next closest town that sells alcohol is over an hour away on a logging road.

Ocean Rodeo uses this event each season to officially launch our new season's equipment so we will have on hand 2010 demo gear for you to try. Additionally, while I have no final say on this matter I know historically the organizers of the event very much wish that, any other brands who wish to come up in an official fashion and run some 2010 demos at the same time would be more than encouraged to come, throw down and enjoy the opportunity to get a ton of riders on their gear.

Ocean Rodeo riders on this forum should also be sure to check out this thread on our Ocean Rodeo forum. Each year we host what we loosely refer to as a Crew Event in conjunction with Windfest. If you own and ride Ocean Rodeo gear you are welcome to take us up on the invite to join us at Windfest as part of the Crew, meet others on our gear and have us take care of your camping and BBQ needs for the weekend!

I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible!

John Z - OR

Awesome! Glad to hear the event is going to happen again this year. We'd heard a rumor that it might not. We'll be there for sure!

For you Gorge kiters that haven't made the trip it is definitely worth it. Excellent kiting, an awesome location, tons of fun and a real welcoming vibe from our Canadian neighbors.

Mark or Phil: can someone add this to the Events calendar?

And thanks Oceanrodeo for making sure this didn't conflict with KB4C!

Tony

Nitinat Windfest is definitely a location and event that every kiter from the NW should visit and experience.
I haven't been up there in a couple of years, but would love to get back up.

The biggest f'ing logging trucks in the world, the longest dirt road in the world, the best wind conditions, killer communal camping, gi-normous trees, the most killer backwoods saunaright on the beach, friendly party hosts and lastly, if your lucky, or maybe not so lucky, you'll get to meet the naked chainsawers cutting wood and playing classic Rush music late into the night.

Yes, it is Canada, they party and they know how to do it well with style.

If you can time your ferry schedule just right, you can also get in an afternoon or evening kite session at Ediz Hook in Port Angeles while waiting for the ferry.

Yup, I think that site might be updated now? As KMac says the dates are the Friday - Sunday, 14-16. Many riders come up for the Thursday too though.

With regards to transportation from the Gorge area I should have mentioned Pepi's idea earlier - thanks Pepi! There is no question that the Coho Ferry from Pt Angeles is your best route to take. It is less expensive than BC Ferries, is a more direct route, is a nicer drive and saves you hours of hassle driving in Seattle traffic and at the Peace Arch crossing. Also, you arrive right in the heart of DT Victoria!

If you intend to stay the night that night in town drop me a PM with your food preferences and I'll help direct you to a good restaurant and you certainly have a ton of hotels to choose from too.

Hope to see you all up there for the event, as so many other posters commented, it is a beauty event, eh!

(And, sadly, yes you now need passports to come visit us.)
