How does the team comp work?
Total laps and everyone out all day?
1 kiter on the water at a time so relay style?
3 guys and a girl required?

I have been speaking with our team members as well as those of another team, and we all assumed that we all would be riding at the same time and the team score would be decided by an accumulated lap score (all riders laps combined together).
Our whole team is totally committed to riding the whole event at the same time and even going for some of the individual prizes.
Team IRV and Team Scotty Edgar vote for using the cumulative score.
Carol! Are you in with us on this? (say 'yes' please ) _________________ Pure Stoke Sports

I think we'll get more teams and participation if its a relay. Its easier to get a 1 - 2 hr committment from most kiters vs. the full duration. Plus it adds a sprint factor, team support, landing strategies, equipment sharing, etc. And adding a girl requirement would make it more fun (or a 1-3 lap handicap if no girls on the team). And the ones that want the long sesh will do the individual.
Yes, I have team members that are not "totally committed" and want to drink a few beers, enjoy the festivities, and maybe do the SUP races too. |

Cumulative sounds like the best format to me. The more laps everyone does, the more the sponsors donate, right? A relay format would stifle the total amount of laps done by all riders since only one member of each team would ride at a time...and the event's primary goal is to raise money, not to create some super strategic competition or whatever.
Plus it'll be more fun to watch more riders vying for the individual victory. Seems to me like a relay format would be a bit selfish, and if a team doesn't have 4 members willing to commit to riding the whole time, then maybe that team isn't strong enough to be the winner of the team portion.
If someone's concerned that they won't be able to win the team portion because not all of their members want to stay out the whole time then that person at least still has the opportunity to do well individually.
The point of KB4C isn't to win prizes, etc (either individually or as a 4 person team), it's to raise money and win as a community! Let's not stifle our ability to do this by limiting total laps done by all riders, and therefore limiting sponsor donations. I might be wrong, but I don't think a relay format will promote more or less participation...are there really people who will only enter the event only if they think they have a chance of winning? I'm sure there are plenty of people only planning to go out for a few hours and don't care about winning a prize.

I think Tonia will have to decide what will bring in the most $. If there is an awesome per lap corporate sponsor, then we should go for lots of laps and everyone staying on the water as long as possible to bring in the $ for the cause. If not, then putting more people on the water may make more sense. Maybe do both. Either way, I'll be out there the entire time for personal reasons. |
