To all my peeps out in the Pacific NW.....I moved back to VT a few months ago and have been jones'n wicked bad to get out kiting. I rode about a month ago or so on Lake Champlain and the wind was PERFECT (20-23mph, like a fan) but the H20 was 36F. Yikes.....it's been tough to find good, open areas to launch and there's nobody around to help launch (trees everywhere and not much sand).

Anyways, the wind is not anywhere close to OR but today was epic! Take a look at this consistent wind. Very Happy Now I just gotta find some spots to self-launch.

Keep rocking it in the Gorge and hope to see you guys in the near future.

Mike

P.S. Hey Strach! Give a shout.....heard you were moving this way in the Fall from Chanson.

Happy to hear your getting some wind out there Mike. If you get a chance look up Rachel at Storm Boarding in Burlington. She will be able to give you the low down on all the spots.

@ BacktoCali
I lived in NH the last 27 years and spent most of my summers on Winni. There can be some good snowkiting when the lake freezes over but kiting in the spring/summer is really hit or miss. There are some really windy days on the lake but wind direction is a huge problem since 98% of the lake is private property and the small amount that is open to the public is covered in trees. The only beach that I have found good to launch at is on the SE side of the lake in between Alton Bay and Paugus Bay. The name of the state park is escaping me at the moment so I'll post it up when I get some computer access other than my crackberry.

PS be sure to check out the Naswa in Gilford for a killer beach party scene, and Gusseppis for some amazing pizza/italian in Meredith.

PPS I'm going back there tomorrow and bringing my stuff for cape cod. My folks have a boat on winnie and we could try to hook up for a sandbar or deep water boat launch if the wind is up. PM me your cell #

before I started kiting--I remember looking at the wind and parks around this bridge:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=burlington+VT&sll=45.517002,-122.634344&sspn=0.007397,0.018024&ie=UTF8&ll=44.033061,-73.421674&spn=0.01518,0.036049&t=h&z=15&iwloc=A
and thought about buying kiting stuff and giving it a shot. But I didn't know anyone who kited... and didn't try kiting until later in 06 when I lived in So. Cal.
The park on the NY side would be easy to self launch at, depending on the wind.
Good luck!
Very Happy

Thanks for the offer anyway Chooch!

I might bring the gear and try some drift launching from the sailboat they have. I will also check out Ellacoya, thanks for the info. Looks like the gear is coming. I always feel like a high maintenance chick traveling with a ton of crap.

I hope the east side is treating you allight Mike, bummer you had to leave the gorge.

Yeah it's alright around here but I've been thinking why the F@$# did I move out of OR. Least I shoulda gone to Maui or some tropical local Cool

The sensor reading is from the Colchester Reef......seems to be the most reliable for the immediate area. Man I miss Stevie, but least no river nose around here.......yet
