Tue May 19, 09 8:44 am Snowkiting Wallowa Mtns--NE Oregon |
|
|
The Gondola opens at Wallowa this weekend and a group of us are thinking about Snowkiting the summit area, I've scoped it out several times (in summer, no snow) and area is above treeline and windswept--question is, how windswept?
Anyone have any experience Snowkiting anywhere near there at high elevation, please keep side comments in cheek, this question isn't coming from a Noob to high elev kiting so post if you have good info on the area.
Sat/Sun forecast is calling for NW light teens in the valley, hoping that translates into mid-20's up top. Talked to the company and they allow ski/boards/packs, etc so it's a go unless specifically banned, which they said it was not to their knowledge.
Any info? It'd be appreciated.....

Our buddy Toby (kitetele on forum) goes to the Wallowa's every year, and but I don't think he has ever tried snowkiting there. I think he says there are areas that look like they had potential but no wind.
He'd probably answer your questions but he's in Europe right now (bastard.) |

figures, I was in Europe last week and there was no wind...now there's wind in Wallowa's and only way to find out if its doable is trial and error.
Worse case scenario I end up doing a sick glide all the way into Hells Canyon, supposed to be solid up there but we'll see.
I'll post pics if it works....late |
