Can someone tell me how Floras lake is earlier in the summer season? I have only been in August and September, but wondering about wind and water temp May/June/July.
(must make my summer sorties plan)
Thanks! |

I took a trip in June, i think, last year for like a week, and the wind was like 7m every single day, it was fucking awesome!
i've had a two more trips down last summer one being in July and the other at the end of the summer and it was total hit or miss. It seems like the wind blows on the Oregon coast, especially the south coast, until it shuts down, goes light or southerly and then it is off, until it turns back on again. If you're planning your trip waaay in advance then you'll just have to go with it, but if you can plan your trip last minute, that is what i'd recommend, just because floras lake is a 6 hour drive from Hood River and it sucks to go all that way and then have light or no wind. If you do end up getting skunked, if you stay long enough the wind will almost always turn back on within 3-5 days it seems like. some other people can provide some better insight who are there all the time. this is just my experience taking a few trips down last summer.
it seems like i heard Reed say once, they wear a 5/4 suit all year round, but if you're just going to kite in the lake and not the ocean, then you can wear a 3/2 or 4/3, in July or August, but it is almost always colder at the coast. Dont forget pants and hoodies for at night. |

| Cool, Thanks magicmaker for the info. I did read that most of the campgrounds are first come first serve. I am pretty flexible with dates during the last part of the month, So going the right time for wind is possible. |

| went for a week last july, 1mil top and boardies, lake only, blew 11m all day every day. Most of the time, during the week days, there were several hour windows where we had the entire lake to ourselves. solflyer seems to be the guru and i'm sure will chime in on this one. |

magicmaker is pretty much right on the money. Usually a storm front will pass thru about every other week. But even then i've only been skunked for a 3day stretch max...(for two summers now) There's at least always a southerly breeze that is in my opinion better for waves. If your really lucky you'll get a good southerly for at least a week, Thats when the ocean warms up and the waves are so good.
MMM,...got me drooling about it. Only time i've ever been able to wear a shorty(3/2) in the ocean was on a sunny & southerly day.
As for the Lake, I've always worn my 5/4. Even during the summer its nice to get the wind chill off your back. The shorty is warm when riding, but gets cold while taking a break.
As far a current update: The lake right now is warming up, I've been out numerous times and the locals are already tearing it up day in & day out. No need for booties, or gloves, or even a hoody. If your in a 4/3 you'll be fine. _________________ I stretch my wings and pull the strings |

I concur, boardies in the summer gets chilly, even though water temp is warm there's the coastal air temp with wind chill that gets to you which is why i suggest having a full suit is better; it keeps you warmer and allows you to stay out longer. Man I need to get down there and soon _________________ BIP- "YOUR GIRLFRIENDS FAVORITE" |
