So Jbruxer and I show up around four today to this apparantly super secret spot that the people in the know call "the event site" and there are maybe 8 to 10 kites on the grass and maybe 8 or 9 people on the water - 9 seemed to be the size of choice.

We pump up and by the time we are ready to hit the water most everyone is packing up and leaving. I was like sweet - more wind for us. We seriously had one of the most epic days I have ever had. We rode with barely anyone on the water - winds melowed out and were steady - I was on a 9 - Jbruxer on a 10. And then the last two hours everyone left - and that is when it got unbelievably good. Some of the best winds you can ask for in the gorge. - just the two of us on the water - no one at the meager sand spit or the grass or on the water. Unbelievable riding man - it was a fan. Perfectly powered on a 9. I couldn't believe the day we had - didn't feel like the gorge in April - sun was out and kept me nice and toasty - super steady winds - plenty of flat water up by the bridge.

We milked it for all it was worth - rode back from the bridge exhausted and perfectly content in just the right time because the winds were shutting down and if we stayed in later we wouldn't have been able to make it back to the event site.

In the last month I have had three absolutely epic sessions. This is a start to an amazing season!!!

Days like today make me ready for the work week - I'll go into work nice and chilled.

And so - I gotta ask?? Where was everybody? Why did everybody cut out around 5 - the gettin just got good and everybody bails. But hey, it feels good to have the whole place for yourself though!! No pics - too busy riding - maybe next time.

Oh and thanks to the danger for letting me borrow the kite leash - the kite gnomes stole mine Crying or Very sad

EPIC session indeed!!! Super steady winds, mixtures of flat water and huge swell, great sunset, Mt. Hood covered with snow in the background, and nobody else on the water.....for hours! Hood River can be an absolutely magical place some times. Very Happy

And thank goodness for velcro. Wink

Combination of lukewarm forecast and easing winds around 1pm were the cause. I went biking, got back at 5, checked the conditions and knew right away I missed pretty good wind Sad

Glad you guys got the goods

i was on the water at 12 and finally at 3:30 when my thumbs wouldn't function anymore, i got off. glad the wind steadied out for you. earlier in the day i found it pretty gusty and was on my 7 too. maybe i am just a light weight (160) but, i always feel i am on smaller kite than everyone else. i was on my 10 for the first two hours but, with 6 inches of depower pulled. my 7 felt more comfortable.

it was a good day for sure. great season for me so far, that was number 6.

Random story behind this comment - towards the end of the session my mystic warrior harness latch popped off. So the only thing keeping my kite, bar/lines, and harness attached to my body was the velco strap that goes underneath the spreader bar. I don't know how the spreader bar latch came loose - I tightened it down to the point it was a girdle and I was riding for several hours with it just fine.

That would have totally sucked to have everything go flying down river. But I wasn't too worried cus I was flying Jbruxer's kite - not mine Twisted Evil

Is the "hook" attachment for the spreader bar facing towards you body, or away. It should be facing away, like the dakine setup. I dont know why mystic insists on doing it that way,....but your not the first one to have that happen.

Thanks man - I probably had it facing towards me - gotta be real careful. Everything is riding on that one latch - kite/bar/lines/harness - you will be some pecker bobbing up and down with nothing but ur board to keep you company.
