so,
on Sat a big groups of friends rented a house at Seaside right on the water. I go out for a few hours to kitesurf. It's gusty southerly, and at one point I'm walking up the beach and a flock of seagulls rolls up. they dont see my kite (it's only like 12 ft of the ground), and at the last minute they're all literally bumping into each other to avoid the kite.
one of them hits one of the rear lines and there's a twang and a big burst of feathers!
Anyone else been hit by a bird?
the seagull flew away, and look fine, btw.

I've tried hitting them for years but was never successful. my 2yo son was standing on the beach in florida holding a sandwich and a seagull swooped down and bit his hand, thus stealing the sandwich.
So now that shit is personal. BTW, seagulls make excellent crab bait.

Sounds like a scene from Nemo 2: Attack of the Seagulls. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

we actually watched 'the wedding singer' that weekend, and there's a reference to 'a flock of seagulls' and their hair.
pdxmb: if i had known one bit your son--I would have looped the kite! smacked him a second time!

Kyle, not sure how I missed ya Sat. as I was on the beach almost all day.
The morning was gusty but by 2 things turned pretty golden...I missed the best of it but made it out around 4 for the last of it.
Feathering set waves on the outside with solid 11m side shore. I thought I had to go to Peru to fullfill my goofy desires...but every once in a while, it gets served up right out front...so nice!

A seagull shit on my back once when I was lying on the beach. I can tag any seagull that gets within range of my foils. Mostly it just spins them around and they fly away. _________________ Lets FLY

Birds are your friends...
even in southern oregon where the beaches are closed to protect them. So be nice to birdies and bird people (there are a many of both).

i was at rockaway (at NW4th st) between 3pm and 6pm, approximately. I didn't see any other kiters, but wasn't surprised due to the rain and mushy waves. too bad we missed each other. tried to go out sunday AM, but it was nuking in the the 40s i think.
That said, i got a few good rides on shoulder high waves. 11m, too, for me.
