Signed. Good job Tim (BKC) and everyone else involved in getting this petition going. I will be adding it to our next newsletter that hits over 15,000 kiters around the world.

This is so great to see everyone signing on.

As tekko stated, this is super important to help protect most of the sites that we all use. Snow or Water. Remember the Gorge is also federally regulated as The Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area. Let's stay positive and keep the good vibes going on this access issue. And no they are not looking at the Gorge but I am making a point of the seriouness of this.

Please have your non-kiting friends, family, and co-workers sign the letter of support also. Hey, they appreciate the happiness that you bring to them after you go kiting.

Also, the committee of kiters that will be negotiating with the Forest Service is looking for help. If anyone would like to volunteer to attend meetings, make calls, etc. please PM me. And, we could use an attorney or two to help with any legal issues that might come up.

Yes, it is true that a few kiters have their own private island and don't have to worry about being shut down by anyone. So, unless you can afford your own private beach, or you are willing to get naked with Richard Branson; then sign on and SEND IT!

Thank you everybody for all your support!

Even if you don’t Snowkite this is about more than that, this is about loosing public access to public lands. Below is taken from the Forest Service Manual 2320.5.3 and it is right now in Washington DC getting rewritten to exclude kites and snow kiting.

We need all the signatures we can get with comments of why this is important to you! So when it comes up for public comment we have some ammo.

3. Mechanical Transport. Any contrivance for moving people or material in or over land, water, or air, having moving parts, that provides a mechanical advantage to the user, and that is powered by a living or nonliving power source. This includes, but is not limited to, sailboats, hang gliders, parachutes, bicycles, game carriers, carts, and wagons. It does not include wheelchairs when used as necessary medical appliances. It also does not include skis, snowshoes, rafts, canoes, sleds, travois, or similar primitive devices without moving parts.

Although I don't snowkite, I signed with the following arguments against a ban:

Snowkiting is non-impact activity that should NOT be prohibited in wilderness areas: 1) It makes no noise. 2) Opportunities are very limited. 3) It only occurs on limited terrain with adequate access. 4) It only occurs when there's adequate snow accumulations. 5) It only occurs when there's sufficient wind. 6) No impact to wildlife. 7) No polluting emissions. Cool Self-limiting - limited numbers of kiters can share a given area. 9) Positive impact to the economy of rural areas during winter months.
