Nope. Maybe 3 to 4 hours a night, 1 or 2 hours at a time. Hitting the mountain today on 4 hours of sleep was interesting to say the least.

It was epic... I sat under my kite while it hailed and rained with just enough wind to keep me out there hoping it would go.

Sauvies and strip clubs have a very high correlation in my mind.

When going to the strip clubs, you are all excited to see a bunch of smokin girls dancing naked and throwing away money at them.
When going to sauvies, you are all excited that its forcasted to go and you might have a sweet session.

Once you are at the strip club for a little while, you realize that your drink is pretty weak, the girls aren't as hot as you remember, and you quickly run out of ones therefore loosing any attention you were getting.
Once you have pumped up, layed your lines out, and gotten in your wetsuit at sauvies you realize that the wind is nothing like that epic session last year, there is no sign of it picking up, and the forecast was probably wrong. Then you check your phone and see someone posting up an on-sight in the gorge having way more fun than you.

After leaving the strip club you are really going now and you want a woman worse than ever but you most likely will just go home in a buzzed stupor.
After leaving sauvies, you want to kite worse than ever and are usually mostly drunk.......

Can't wait for those summer sessions out there.

yeah but for whatever reason, you keep going back to strip clubs and sauvie - well at least some people do. I love riding at Sauvie when its on, its a fantastic spot for sure. But in terms of riding, a super day at Sauvie is tantamount to ok winds in the gorge.

If you live or work on the west side though, your pretty much hosed.

(now someone (who lives in scappose or st. helens) can post the obligatory, dudes!, why waster your time? drive to jones beach coment)

Well like a sucker I keep going to sauvies because I live in SW and I agree a good session there is fun but I will probably be skipping the sitting there and hitting the gorge a little more this summer.

Yeah it's easy to say just go to the gorge, but from the west side that's a non-option weekdays. As for the eastern gorge, that's even a tough call on weekends for me. It's the difference between an hour drive round trip and a 4-5+ hour drive round trip.

Even the spit is kinda iffy. I've seen more memorable kook events there in one weekend than in a whole season out at Sauvies. I imagine the ratio is about the same, but there are a whole lot more folks including beginners packed in closer on the beach and kiting in stronger, gustier wind.

Rooster is an easy trip on weekends, Jones is only about a 2-1/2 hour round trip. The coast is about a three hour round trip to Area B or D.

If I think SI is gonna work, even marginally, its usually an easy call for me. And most summer days it does work if you wait it out, but sometimes the window of goodness is pretty short. On the other hand, I'm a lawn mower supreme, so what do I care about good conditions for anyway? Right now I'd be pretty happy with some junk wind, warm sun and a can of beer or two Wink

Now that we have the winch that's all gonna change though right? It'll be like having a reject stripper that's willing to show a little extra love to your crew. She's not quite as enticing as the rest and you'll have to wait your turn, but it's better than the alternative.

Hhmmmm...So I always wondered what a "Reject Stripper" is...

So next time I need to get off early from work, I'll tell the boss, "Hey man, I gotta get outta here early...Need to go see the reject stripper..."

Thanks Gene...Knowledge is a good thing...

My 2-cents....

Yeah, SI can be pretty cool sometimes...
Especially in the summer, after work sessions...
I really like that place a lot, and I will continue to kite there many more times...

But seriously.....It might be a shorter distance to drive for some of you...
And you probably think you'll save time and money...
I guess it's true for some of you...

BUT COME ON FELLAS......The key thing here is..."what about progression..."

Don't you think mowing the lawn gets kinda old... Rolling Eyes

I bet each and everyone one of you guys will become a hella of a lot better, if you spend more time on the water and less time on the beach drinking beers...Sitting on the beach, waiting for a puff and wondering if the smoke stacks are gonna move...yeah sure...
What I'm saying.....There is a shit load of wind to be had...You guys need to realize that SI isn't the only place to kite in the northwest...
There's people in Oklahoma who are willing to kill for a place the the gorge...
I tip my hat for those who go above and beyond to find wind and water, under any conditions...
G-man...this guy will kite anywhere, anytime, even with a fucked up knee...

enough said....!
