They say it fits surfboards... 200mpg is perfect for those 1 day Florence runs, won't make it out the jetty though. Very Happy

Needs a cargo box on the roof to block the photovoltaic cells and create some drag!

i looked at buying one, kinda. they are technically in the 'motorcycle' category, and not subject to passenger car safety ratings. i guess you can kinda see that by looking at them. might be scary on the 405.
i just got a VW Golf TDI, and I'm getting a bit over 50mpg Very Happy
going to put it on veggie oil soon.

I don't know how close they are to production but I'm waiting for this three-wheel motorcycle(http://flytheroad.com/). It's based on Carver(http://www.3wheelers.com/carver.html), which has a gasoline engine.

And the most impractical and unsafe car award goes too....

I wonder how that thing does in side impact tests.

Looks like a death trap.

Apparently, they have put quite a bit of time into making the aptera crash worthy for this very reason. They have done several rounds of independent testing and the Aptera exceeds current safety standards. I think this is in part due to the one piece monoque (sp) style.

I can't wait to see their gas backup come out. Pretty freaking sweet IMO. It maikes so much sense, cut the drag down to nothing and you get rock star mileage. Hmmm, who would have thunk it.

but is it exceeding passenger car safety or motorcycle safety? it would be an awesome commuter car, no doubt.
speaking of drag:
this kid modified his honda civic to get 95mpg, only by reducing drag (almost halved it).

pretty inspiring.

VW that gets 235 mpg
...the entire car weighs just 660 pounds
...one-cylinder diesel engine producing 8.5 horsepower Shocked
...production model will use a two-cylinder turbodiesel for a little more oomph Razz

hey look at it this way, if you get smoked in a car crash, you get a couple of weeks off work and lots of cool painkillers.

Smile

jon, you need a license plate holder on the hozone that says my other car is a land rover.
