Wed Feb 25, 09 9:56 am Digital Point and Shoot + Waterproof cases |
|
|
Hi All,
I am headed to Belize shortly. I was wondering if anyone had done some research recently about good digital point and shoot cameras and had bought a waterproof case for them.
I'm looking to spend maybe 600 bucks total. I was going to do a bunch of research on this at work today but thought maybe someone else knew of some killer deals or had really research what the best setup was.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Josh
PS. I jacked up and didn't get on this earlier so i am looking to have product in hand by March 2nd when my flight takes off. I'm okay buying from the big boxes or paying expedited shipping cause I wanna have it product in hand.
Thanks! |

I have this point and shoot.... love it. Retails for $350 got it online for $270.
The camera that redefines tough. The Stylus 1030 SW is one tough camera. The Shockproof, Waterproof, Freezeproof and Dustproof design gives active people the confidence to take this camera anywhere and shoot in nearly any condition. Plus, the wide-angle lens lets users capture more of what they see. Great for divers, surfers, rafters, skiers and anyone with an active lifestyle.

| I agree with Brian, though I wouldn't go with the D70. If you stick with Nikon and you want all of the features in the 70, just go with a D40, D40x, or D60. The D70 is just too old now and you'll get all the features of it, plus more on the others. |

If you are looking for a SLR then by all means you will need a good lens. The lens they bundle is adequate but if you want really good pics you will need a better lens. The rule is spend your money on the lens. You will be upgrading bodies thru out the years but will keep a good lens for a lifetime. Expect to pay $2000 for a top grade NON push pull lens.
Take some time and research Nikon and Canon.

The good thing about the Nikons we're talking about here is they don't use super-expensive glass. Both the D40x and D60 use Nikon's cropped frame sensor, which only require DX lenses. These are the same lenses you can use all the way up to the D300. FX (full frame glass/sensors) is the shit that gets expensive.
If you're talking about the big bundles of shit they put on Ebay, I would NOT do that... even if you bought it from a decent online store. That's how they get you. Seems like you're getting an okay price, but the stuff included is junk. Sometimes weird brand lenses, batteries, etc.
Nikon, however, does put together "packages" from the factory which come pretty much ready to start shooting (aside from a storage card). These are decent and would be more than adequate to get off shots far beyond any point-n-shoot could do. |

Josh, the 40 is probably perfect for you I think the only thing that the 40x has us mor pixels but unless your going to be printing large pictures, thenyoull never need them.
Get a package with a nikon lens and you'll be fine. Yes, better lens are very nice But they are expensive and in many cases you won't be bow to tell the diff . Some of henry's wide angle shots are simply amazing but that lens he is using was $1600.... |
