Tue Feb 24, 09 8:23 am Playa del Carmen - anyone kite here? |
|
|
| Has anyone kiteboarded in or near Playa del Carmen Mexico? Know of where the kite beaches are? Any issues to know about or watch for? We are going early March - hope the wind is good this time of year... |

tulum is great!
Go to kiteboardmexico.com (Ikarus) they have detailed info about all the spots in and around the area. The lagoon north of cancun often offers up great wind when all other locations are dead. The website has all this information.
Kiting from Playa can be difficult, if you are staying at an all inclusive you can kite at the very southern end of them. There is a small beach in Playacar Phase One that is a great spot to go from, but you have to be staying there or pretend to be staying there. There is also a beach at the very northern end of Playa that you can kite from.
If you have a car go to Tulum or the couple of sports between playa and tulum or
the huge lagoon north of cancun. you can also ferry over to cozumel and rent a car and hit the spots there, cozumelkiteboarding.com
Assuming wind everywhere Tulum is by far my favorite spot based on beach, water, space and scenery... |

The new Beta version (downloadable now) has little kitesurfing icons that when you click to open they show pics, give descriptions, offer links to kite schools & shops, etc.
It's a bada** tool, which if you use it correctly you won't be when you show up at the wrong beach with Vato's waiting to jack your shiz!
The Playa area had more than 4 icons with different info on each so chances are you'll find some good info that'll help you make your kitesite decision. |

Stayed there 3 times to kite. Tulum is great if and only if the wind is blowing and that's iffy. You have to have a car down there or you can't go anywhere. Better off going to Cozumel where Phil and those guys go which is 7 miles off shore and way better wind.
Otherwise it's a great place to stay and chill at. Great private houses in Playacar if you need someone where to stay.

| I live in Cozumel, come visit us here! Cancun, Playa and Tulum are good, but the island is a must do! |
