Fri Jan 30, 09 10:39 am OT: Anyone have a vaccum pump? |
|
|
I'm in the process of designing a media cabinet that is going to be veneered. Wondering if anyone has a decent vacuum pump that I can use to vacuum bag press some sheet stock. I can get a hold of the correct bags. Just wondering about the pump.
If your into cool looking wood, check out this quilted maple veneer I picked up..

You can use a fridge motor if you can find an old fridge down the tip that is!!
Just pull the motor out and you'll see that when you turn it on you'll see what I mean. I've vac bagged windsurfing boards with these motors back in the day when i used to make them!
I think it'll give you enough vacuum force. _________________ Hayling Island South Coast UK - riding Rally & RPM |

| monkeyboy, i have one. I use it to bag boards when I get 'unlazy' and want to lay one up. You're welcome to borrow it sometime. |

Sweet, thanks a bunch Brett and Pepi. I think I have finally come up with an acceptable plan but I'm going to build a 1/4 scale mock up to get an idea of the proportions are correct...
thinking a few weeks before I'm ready to start pressing. Vacuum veneering looks fairly straight forward but I don't want to make $100 pieces of fire wood. |

yeah, that site has sooo much information about veeneering and presses and pumps, you name it. joe also has some spectacular veneer as well. I was blown away when I opened my first order from him.
All table of all the different press kits can be found here. http://www.joewoodworker.com/docs/vacuumpresschart.pdf
he also has excellent instructions to build your own vaccum bags. The site is the bomb!! |
