Well said GMan Cool stoked for this summer at sauvies with the winch.

On a side note I would say a skimboard is a much more cost effective light wind weapon as opposed to a big expensive kite. Not to mention a lot more fun...

We try not to compare kite brands on here cause it just causes alot of drama. For size though I usually ride a 9m or 11m at Sauvies...bigger kites for sure since it's usually pretty light wind

There's a lot of good kites, depends on your weight & board. For sure start out with a lightwind board. Here's an awesome deal on a great Sauvies kite: http://www.nwkite.com/forums/t-11727.html

After 5 years of trying numerous different kites (17 meter fuel, 20m machine, 16m crossbow (which seemed bigger than the 20m) at sauvie in an attempt to avoid getting skunked...even with a skim. I would have to say that the 14m T2 is able to harness the slightest amount of wind and keep me up and planning. Maybe I'm saying that b/c I'm selling the t2 and going to hook up with a REV. What is more likely is that I (we) have the winch now so screw mowing the lawn in low gear. its huck and chuck time!!

Light wind takes some experience and good kite flying skills. It's not always about moving the kite as fast as possible.

LOL, you beat me to the punch!! I keep questioning selling that thing. It does soo well in light winds. It just pulls like a tractor when the wind picks up.

For a 185 pound guy - I like the 16M Vegas. Excellent in light winds. It is big and slow - but I can still catch some air when the wind picks up a bit. I also prefer to have the fifth line - it helps it relaunch in light winds. You could also ask the seattle people- look at the link on this forum in the upper right hand corner - they go to Jetty Island its like our sauvie island (from what I hear).

Lay a 14m SLE on top of a 17m C and see which you think is "big". For me they both handle about the same. The one advantage the flatter designs *may* have is that they ride more forward in the window and therefore have better up wind ability. Not sure if others agree...

A 9' long surf board is also handy (and fun) at SI. Thumb's Up

PS - I too, have a 14M T3 for sale in the classifieds. Wink

Big kites are sooo 2004.

If your going to strut your 18m wipika, please rig within the downstream kook corral.

As stated above, the best solution is the 6.5hp unicorn. Can you image how much free beer the winch crew is going to collect this summer??

Staggering.

Don't undersell yourself PMB. I think we all know the unicorn winch is well over 6.5hp with all of the mods it's been thru. We should have a speed test next summer. I nominate Gman on a skimboard as being a high speed machine.

All of the above, but most importantly don't forget a 12 pack of your favorite beer.
