Bros, just wanted to give you a heads up about USPS - besides the fact that they suck (which I'm sure you already know).

I just bought sur4boi's 10M havoc from the classifieds http://www.nwkite.com/forums/t-11647.html

He said he shipped it out via USPS but he said they would not allow them to track the package??? I'm thinking WTF? Never heard of that - he then PDF's me the receipt. I call up USPS to verify the receipt is legit - and USPS says that they have no record of that receipt # - and now I'm thinking, great - I'm getting scammed here Mad

sur4boi was cool about it and reassured me he really did send the package. So I come home today from work and sitting on my door step just waiting for me is my beautiful 10M havoc!!! Stoked!! Pumped it up - great condition!! Can't wait to try it out on the snow!!

So moral of the story - don't ship via USPS - they have their heads up their *ss - and if someone tells you they sent it USPS and they can't track it and USPS says they have no record of the shipping receipt number - don't assume its a scam - like I said - USPS just has their heads up their *ss Evil or Very Mad

Very happy to know there are honest people out in the world!!

Oh and one other thing - the dude includes a christmas card in the kite bag - made me laugh!!

I think you need to send it Express or Priority mail to track USPS. I do know that I have had packages tracked with them.

ah come on man - what would you think if you called up USPS and they said they had no record for the receipt number the guy sent you - dude thats a total red warning light going off.

I guess i could deal with the fact that they can't track (well not really - but anyways) - but telling me the number doesn't exist??? That ain't right man.

I don't know man, the USPS pretty much friggin rocks really. Better than the pricks at UPS who seem to have lost my parents Christmas gift. That and no matter how many notes I leave on the door telling them to just leave a package, when I get home there is a tag saying "signature needed in person" -- even if the sender did not request a signature.

If you really want to experience a bad postal system, mail something in a 3rd world country. My parents had to mail me shoes one at a time in the Philippines because if they mailed both at the same time they would steal them. They once sent me a can of nuts in a care package. "looks like your package was damaged during shipping" uhh huh. when I opened the box someone had eaten half the can of nuts!! now THAT is b.s.

USPS tracking is rubbish even with priority - it usually takes so long to hit the tracking system the item has arrived by the time you receive it. BUT if you are getting a kite shipped why not buy insurance??? I use Fedex ground a fair bit, it's usually cheaper than USPS once you get over about 4lbs - the tracking is good and and insurance is included. Plus it's way quicker to drop stuff at Kinkos than line up at the post office. You can easily register for a fedex account and print out the shipping label etc at home then you can be in and out of Kinkos in about 30 seconds. Local ground shipping is usually really quick - i drop off a kite in Vancouver today and Airtime will usually get it the next morning. Same thing if my daughter in Seattle ships me her laptop to fix (again) i get it the next day.
USPS best deals are often oversize but lightweight item like boards but don't forget that insurance!~

My only complaint about FedEx is they did not deliver during the snow storm. Which I can understand during the height of it. However, UPS and USPS made deliveries thru the WHOLE storm! FedEx also claimed last Friday and Saturday were to bad to deliver..... except there was no snow left by Friday...

I started typing on my phone last night, but forgot to post it...

I also have never had a problem with USPS, and I use it all the time for my car wiring harness shit.

Yeah, Priority doesn't have true tracking (like UPS or FedEx), but you can still do delivery confirmation for like $0.55.

USPS can NOT track insured packages until after 30 days. I had that problem more than once.
When I was at summer camp in 1992, my mother sent a care package that did not show. a few years later, 1997, it showed back up at our place. every thing was there including the money, but I would not recommend the jerky, trail mix or peanut briddle. How the hell do you lose a package ror 5 friggn years.

It doesn't make any sense why they can't track the packages, but whatever I guess.

But damn 5 years!! Thats great - what a surprise that must have been!!

(By the way - did it have a set of hand cuffs in there? Laughing )

Dogs love UPS and Fedex. They always bring treats. I had to ask them to stop because Odis would try to jump in the UPS van before that guy even had time to stop. Now I give him treats in the house when they come. It's a much better system and makes it easier for the delivery drivers.

I shipped 4 large heavy boxes (one with surfboards) home from Padre via DHL after I sold my motorhome last year. It was a weekend and I had to drive all over the area looking for a shipper form because in order to get a pickup you had to have the forms filled out in advance. I even called their 800 number to get rate quotes which I put on the forms. DHL driver showed up and took all of it, -no problem. I drove home in a few days but wondered how the stuff I had shipped got home before me. A few days later a charge for almost 3K showed up on our credit card statement and I found out that the only shippers I was able to find had been air bills. I disputed what I felt was their mistake since there was no indication on the forms that they were for air only. They reimbursed the whole amount. Whew!

You want to know whats funnier? My mom mailing me dried pineapple while I'm living on an island in the philippines about a mile from a pineapple farm. Rolling Eyes

Shit, she should have mailed me rice while she was at it.
