Seen some videos of em. They are a decent cheap alternative to the winch but the rides are quick and short. For a few hundred buck could be fun in a light wind pinch.

Fun until the "secured" anchor rips out of the sand and hits you.....fun...over. Seriously though, looks kind of lame. But I guess, sitting on the beach watching others have fun sucks even more.

save your $.
we used to do this as kids in the river with a plywood board and old garage door springs attached to a bridge. Fun until the spring breaks, think of a giant bungee cord breakin in yo face, now make it metal.....ouch.

Yeah, there was a discussion on LTS about this...
losethestraps.com
seems like the anchor has already broke loose and broken someones arm...
I have the cheap version of this.. Just a bungee and wake-handle... We tried hooking it to a log or something fixed, but it was hard as hell to pull out(3-4 guys) then a short ride...
It's still in my garage if you want to try it out or screw around with it..

you guys are just haters....
seems cool to me to hit some beach breaks when the surf is too big to go out in, or there's no wind, and none of you lame asses will come out and run the winch for me...

HAHHAHAH
River bungee is hella tight! HAHAHahA
Been doing it around here for awhile. Great work out for the arms and back. Should get me ready for snowkiting in a jiff.
Its nice because you can set it up by yourself and get a couple sessions in less then 10 mins. Also no noise and smoke. So urban rail hits with out the man coming down on ya should be a piece of cake.
Its the only thing i could think of that, when it gets wetter it becomes more fun. There are spots all over the Hood, Wind, and other rivers all around the gorge so there gotz to be some killer places to set it up other then the beach.
This weekend I'm headin out for a session out in the woods of Carson, if i get some decent footage i will post it. But here are a couple shots from yesterday.
2 bungees' are better then 1

Cool shot Shy!
My friend explaining how his bro does it in England:
Ok - here's the scoop...
The banshee boarder dudes mostly skim on rivers, securing the bungee to a suitably large rock. In the UK they don't have the luxury of Oregon rivers but they have beaches (and fields which I'll get to later)... so my bro bought what can best be described as a large needle to secure the bungee in the sand. A 3/4 inch 1 meter long needle with single 6 inch helix plate on the end would be a more accurate description. He screws it into the sand using a sawn off curtain rail fed through the eye.
This sand anchor has the following adavtages:
1) Versatility - means you can use it anyware - he told me something about a field where a model airplan airstrip had frozen over with resultant impressive terminal velocity
2) Mobility - the banshee boys use a large nylon bag that the fill with sand and bury - not so mobile unless you have a hot air balloon handy
3) Portability - got pin, will travel - although walking along a beach with a really large impaler might look a little odd
Oh, and be sure to screw the needle in all the way otherwise there might be a very high human kebob probability...
Cheers
Paul

I used to do something very simular, we called it riverboarding.
Tie one end of a rope to a tree, the other end was attached to the nose end of a tear drop shaped plywood board. we tied a handle to the board and off we go, carving the river non-stop. Next summer i'll make another setup and show you guys hows it done.
