Does anyone know of any good sources of info about kiting in December at a place called Sport Beach Pinamar on the Alantic near Buenos Aires?
Apparently there was a World Cup event there.
Is December a windy time?
Looking for a windy Baja alternative for the month of Dec.

If your going down that way you might want to look into Chile. It has a lot more potential compared to Argentina as far as I know. 4 1/2 hours north of santiago is a fresh water resivoir called Puclaro that blows 9-7m 365 days a year and its temp ranges from 75-90 deg year round. There are also a few decent small wave spots close to there 1-2 hours away. Or you can travel 4 hours south of the city and hit some world class swell along the coast (Matanzas) along with some nice flat water riding, just a lot colder, I would compare it to sailing the oregon coast in summer. I was there last winter and had the trip of a life time. PM me if you need any additional info, I have a close friend that grew up there and travels back there for a month every winter. Just some food for thought. |

shoot me a pm if you dont find what your looking for. I have friends that live in Montevideo and the surrounding area in Uruguay, they are up on the scene in Argentina. there are several beachs in Uruguay that are overrun with Argentine's for the kite boarding and great beaches.
cheers,

Hey bud, I go to Argentina every year. Usualy in February becuase that's when all my family has summer vaccation.
December and Jan are some of the hottest months and the highest wind speeds.
Those beaches have increadible winds. The most popular are from Pinamar to Villa Gesell, beacuse that's where all of the hotels and vacationers go to.
I am not very good, probablly about a 5 out of 10. I got pounded by the swells last time there. Most people I saw were downwinders. And the winds were steady 8-9 mps in the morning and afternoons.
I can send you some pictures of what the beachse look like if you give me your email. A bit chilly but nothing like Oregon, wide open sands and no rocks. |

Also I'm sure you will be in Buenos Aires. There is a place called Peru Beach, GPS coordinates Latitude 34°28'14.16"S longitude 58°29'25.05"W. They have a lot of equipment there and most locals can tell you about people going to the coast.
If you want to kite there you will need to pay for rental because of liability. They are ass backwards so don't try to understand them. Just bargain for a cheap lesson, with the dollar at 3 to 1 it's not so bad, but that is the only place to launch in the area.
The winds there are sketchy. I have been there about 10 times total and only seen 3 good wind days.
The scenery on the other hand is great, they have a sun bathing area and most of the girls from the area head there after class. |
