So today i was in bum fuck Kansas and it was blowing pretty hard - and I was looking around at all these fields - some of them were flat - some of them had some decent terrain - I'm thinking - this place is a total gold mine for snow kiting. its supposed to start snowing on wednesday. It blows all the time. Lots of empty fields. Anybody ever hit it up?

Who cares...hit that shit up!

Isn't there a lake or something in Kansas where people regularly ride?

What part of Kansas were you in?

There is a lot of wind in western Kansas. It was ~60F today in Kansas City, but that doesn't mean it won't snow tomorrow. While the quick weather changes make it a more interesting place to live, it can also cause 10 inches of snow to fall one day and melt the next. It's really pretty rare to get more than 6-10 inches of snow at a time before it all melts.

The lake that has a regular crew is Lake Cheney. It's supposedly one of the top ten windiest lakes in the nation.

I was born and raised in Kansas. I never realized how boring it was until I lived in the gorge for 7 months last summer and fall. Living in the gorge is what got me interested in kiting and where I took my first lessons. I didn't get out to the gorge this summer as I was finishing my graduate school thesis, but this forum kept me interested in the sport. I plan on finishing my lessons out there next summer.

As I learn more about kiting in Kansas I'll keep this forum informed, so you can get a kiting fix in the midwest as you drive cross country.

not to be a downer but,...

make sure to get permission to ride in some of those fields. Some farmers have winter crops. I know up higher up north in the midwest this happens.

Otherwise hit it! Somewhere in North dakota there is a snowkite event that does a long distance race. Dont know much about it but i'll look it up.

Kansas Question Exclamation Question You are in some serious deep sheit dude Crying or Very sad

I don’t recall there ever being enough snow on the ground to be good enough for snow kiting.

Try Kansas kiteboarding site for some limited info.

Cable Park might be better option.

I was in goodman Kansas - about three house east of denver. I'm not giong to be there for the snow and I don't have my gear with me. But I'm thinking - finding a place to stay would be pretty cheap and gettign there wouldn't be too bad - could make it work! I'm going to be back in goodman in a month - I'm hoping there will be snow on the ground and I'll spend a weekend hopefully.
