So the core group of guys have been pretty damn motivated and we have order 90% of everything we need to build our winch. To my knowledge, this will be the only winch in the PDX area and we will be bringing it out to the airport and sauvie's quite a bit so gone will be the days of just standing around at suavie with nothing to do. Now you can give wake skating and skim boarding a try and get some serous skeez on.
Just think of the admiration and steez that will follow your first kick flip or shove it. Any dildo can ride a twintip with straps.....
So I guess this is the point where we ask any of those that will actually want to ride the winch or those that want to donate to a worthy cause to throw a couple bucks our way.
"For the price of a cup of coffee, you could prevent the boredom and muscle atrophy of a group of kiters". If that's not enough, we promise to post pics of any contributor tearing it up winch style. We can even doctor them up to make you look like your really ripping it up!!
Were not looking for anything huge. $5-$10-$20 anything will help.
And just so you know, this is not going to be some thrown together POS winch, this thing is going to be dope.
I created a paypal account just for the winch cause.. riverwoodrestoration@gmail.com
Let us know your username if we don't know you by name. Like I said, we will go out of our way to thank our sponsors!! |

I'll kick in after the email address is corrected.
If you guys need someone to splice the amsteel, I can do that. Also, don't get it at West Marine, they're WAY expensive. I have a MIG welder if that's any help. |

Mike, so is Seattle Marine the way to go? Seems pretty cheap there.
Thanks, Phil, Forrest, Mike, and everyone else. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

I am working on the video I promise. For some stupid reason I opted to click on the update for my "less than legal" version of Sony Vegas 8. Then it locked me out so I had to do a system restore and registry edits to be able to use it again.
I captured the video and now just have to drop and edit.
Thanks a billion for the contributions!!!!! |

the 7/64" is definately strong enough. The only thing I'd be worried about is that it might bury itself in the spool because of the small diameter. It wouldn't be a problem while riding, but it might be tough pulling the line out. I don't know that this would happen; the only way to find out would be to try it.
If you went with the 1/8" line, you'd have the makings for a lot of chicken loop ropes if it was too small a diameter. (I've been using 1/8" line doubled in on itself to make a dual layer rope. If the outer layer frays and breaks, you still have the inner layer to ride with. No lost kite due to the chicken loop line breaking. )
Also, if you order a 1000', call and make sure they'll send you all 1000' in one piece. I can splice two lines together, but better to start out out with one piece anyway. |

here is what you want for rope. its a high qality, non-strech line that i believe you can get in 500' or 1000' lengths.

That costs $300 for 500ft on buywake.com, where as Amsteel is about $100 or less depending on thickness. Plenty of guys use Amsteel and say it works fine. Otherwise there's Bullet line which is more durable, but still cheaper.
Thanks for the tip though. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

as long as its non-strech go with the cheaper one. if you try using a regurlar nylon rope that has stretch you will lose pop when hitting kickers and oleing onto flat bars becomes more difficult. not to mention it just feels weird when you ride with something that feels like a rubber band. _________________ Keep livin' the dream. |
