It will cost about a $1 a day to run it. Or in reality, a little less than that. Not including labor- we are not hiring anyone- Your looking at around $700 when its all said and done. you can try and save money by not buying a TAV and getting cheap rope, but why bother as you'll likely find that you need it in the end to have a dope machine.
You need the following items.
-- 6.5 hp motor
--Tav 2 torque converter
--1" axle with key groove in it
--2 pillow blocks (industrial bearings that hold axle to frame)
--1" sprocket holder
--at least one sprocket (we bought 3 dif. sizes to perfect gearing)
--#35 chain
--2-3 masterlinks for chain
--chain breaker
--2 wheel hubs for spool
--side material for spool (metal cutting discs, we used hpde from Tapp)
--5' 1/2 threaded rod for spool
--1/2 conduit (also for spool)
--2 or 4 1" locking collars (hold spool in place on axle)
--Roller fairlead - that roller where the rope exists
--about 15' of steel...we're using 2x 1 1/2 by 1/8"
--steel stock for hitch receiver
-- wheels and tires (if you want to roll it--which you do)
--stainless steel bolts and lock nuts
--1000' of 7/64 or 1/8 amsteel rope
--ski rope and handle
--primer
--paint
So its not a bunch of stuff, but it starts to add up.
In order to build it your going to need:
metal cutting chop saw (one that miters would be ideal)
grinder
welder
drill press or strong wrists
decent drill press
clamps, ruler, markers, all that kind of stuff
knowledge of geometry
locktite

Yeah, its all I think about at night. I bought some paint as well, guess you'll just have to wait and see about the color.... |
Yeah, dude, great work!
FYI, we have veto power on your pink, purple, sparkle dust color selection (unless it comes with a unicorn).

| You mean Line-X or Rhino Lining? Is the entire spool coated or just the sides? I would think that would be damaging to the line in the long run?

The entire spool is (at least the part rope goes on). You're right, it probably contributes to the chaffing.

They probably coated it because its made of a material that would rust. I can't think of why they would coat it with that stuff really. Of all the pictures of winches I've seen, that is the only spool that was coated..?
Does the grinch have a Unicorn on it? Lack of unicorn can cause chaffing....

Andrew, that is hilarious. Now we need to man up and paint that design since you went to all the trouble, haha.
