Looks pretty easy for a first-time kicker....

I have access to 3mil, and 6mil. PVC in 4x8's and 5x10's... Just wondering what thickness is best....

I could get a sheet for free... We have a few left-overs laying around the warehouse.

I found that spot on google earth and thought the exact same thing. Easy to reach off marine drive...5 min from the sk8 kite lot. I spent about an hour monday night thumbtacking spots on google earth. Got about 10-15 in the greater PDX area that could work so far.

It is a public lake (there is a regional park there) and private boats are allowed during the winter to fish.

The lake is actually quite clean as it is spring fed and is water quality tested twice a week. They even have pumps that circulate deep water into the swimming beach on the north side of the lake.

Looks pimp, but running our winch there...hmmmm I'm thinking that might last about 30 minutes. Maybe not though.

I found a few spots up in Cedar Hills. Commonwealth Lake park, Nike Lake at their HQ Twisted Evil , and another small spot for poaching.

The smaller poaching spots are going to be hard to find on Google Earth, really need to do some recon by driving around the city.

Out of curiosity, what would it take to set a winch up as a linear cable? Say the spool is mounted vertically and a cable runs around spool to pulley on some remote location. As long as the spool had traction with the cable it should turn right? And then u'd need to attach handle onto the cable with some rope. I know there's lots of practical issues to take care of, but what about the general concept? Any thoughts?

Trudat, I just thought of those too, haha. Nike would be epic, wonder how long we'd last.

Aside from keeping shit from tangling, I think the biggest issue would be securing down both ends. Obviously it'd be more like a rope tow than OHSU tram, but I read an article a while back that said there's almost 1 million pounds of force (laterally) pulling on the top and bottom towers. Now I know we're not dealing with that sort of distance, cable weight, etc., but if you intend on keeping the "reel line" off the ground, there's got to be something solid on each tower. I'm sure a car at each would do, but that's not as pratical.

Certainly doo-able, but the water is like "doo" there. I live about 2 blocks from it. It's part of the cedar mill creek drainage, horrid to think of someone swimming in it. Ideal set-up if it weren't for the 'filthy liquid'.

Anyone been to Hagg Lake? There's a nice drainage ditch leaving it. Hard to see via satellite, but could be sweet terrain potentially.

Kraemer, don't be a wuss. You're just gonna get special powers from the toxic water.

It's mainly the waterfowl pollutants at commonwealth.
