backtoCaLiFragilistic, once you go foil, you never turn back.

I've flown the pumpsters for years and loved every second. Then I tried a foil and was spoil-ed.

Have you ever tried one? There a blast if you're not afraid to swim a little while perfecting your on-the-water recovery sessions Confused

I'll let you try mine if you want. Probably at S.I. next summer. You can't miss me.

Got rocked on an F-One at Sauvies back in like ~2001. At the time I knew how to fly 2 and 4 lines stunt kites, but had never flown anything with a lot of power. Wind lulled, kite started to fall out of the sky, then turned back and railed me... Got drug a couple hundred feet down the beach, then out into the river on my back!

Same thing happened to me on a Ranger at Dalles Mt. last year while snowkiting... Confused

The foil I fly is closed cell, so even though the kite looks gigantic for a foil, it flys very predictably.

I agree on the snow and sand seems really freaky to me as well.

I still haven't been out on my MB on the sand yet. Sounds kinda scary to me.

Adam, if you ever wanted to try my kite, I'd be honored, so don't ever hesitate to ask.

Where in the Dalles did you try it?

Thanks! Smile

At Dalles Mountain. Cross the Dalles bridge from Oregon into Washington, and basically head straight up the mountain for ~30 mins. http://www.nwkite.com/forums/t-6965.html

9m Ranger didn't seem to like big gusts. Phil and Tucker saw me doing flips!

hi all
The foil in the air is a Flysurfer "Silver Arrow" and it's a 19m .
I fly a 13m Flysurfer " Extacy " it's a 2005 model . I also use a 12m 06 Waroo and an08 9m Waroo . I have a flydoor 159 x42 light wind and beginner , also a 128 rip .
I agree the foils have a lot of power and also the tips folding in when not powered up . They can really give a good yank when from a lull to a wind occurs .
As for relaunch in the water ,it takes practice ! If you are able to put your feet on the bottom it's easier but if your swimming it's ...... well , difficult .
I started on my extacy and went to the Waroos due to the depower , it's awsome easier when your not waiting for the next gust or lull that will screw you up as a beginner . Now however the new foils have depower capabilities as well , and easier relaunch. I will definitely get another foil as now I'm improving my skills and they also have depower .
Flysurfers ,Pulse 2 , Speed 2 , and pshyco 4 , problem is , which one ????
I ride My foil on the snow all the time and love it but that filling with water sucks . We have a few good size lakes in our area and when they are frozen and covered with a foot of loose snow .....Yahoo !
Only problem here is that we don't get steady reliable winds , hit and miss here on the north prairies . I have travelled several locations for kitesurfing to get a feel of what good winds are like and Wow what fun .
I had a blast in Hood River and on the coast ,which I liked the best .
Reminds me..... are there any kiting women on the coast looking for a live in diesel mechanic , kiter , plumber , kiter , roofer, kiter .......... Ha ! Ha!
Take care all

Hi Jack (pun intended),

I fly a Speed2 15M closed cell, and talk about depower!

I'll never forget how funny it felt to be able to jump so easily and then, while in the air, go up and down with a little power/depower movement!

Pdxmonkeyboy is right though. Much, much easier to fly an LEI. And that Revy thingy is really a sweet kite.

I want a Pulse 6M for nuclear wind and great wave kite. It doesn't mind being flown towards when riding a wave.

I want a Psycho IV 15M for light wind freestyle, so I could start attempting some of PMB's power moves.

But the Speed2 15M is great for lift and float and really cuts upwind well. I feel like I'm cheating when I do jumps, because the lift and float makes me look like I know what I'm doing Laughing.

Actually PMB taught me alot this year and didn't lighten up on the jabs, which really made it more fun.

Oh yeah TinyE,
The Silver Arrow models use a very light ripstop.

foils are cool but so are tube kites. why buy a foil? let's say foils have more lift, is it worth the price? you can buy a ss rev and have the same amount of lift and d-power( if not a little less) but still the ss rev is cheaper then the fs speed 2. so my question is, is it worth it. One more thing the foil can relaunch really fast if you relaunch it before it fills with water, or bow ties or does what ever. after that you have to SWIM SWIM SWIM. But with an ss rev you can relaunch really fast you don't have to relaunch it on a time limit.

so is the extra $500 or so worth it?

Miner,

BITE ME (not kite me) Exclamation Exclamation

My answer to your question is, "YOU'RE DADFLIPPITYDOODAH RIGHT IT'S WORTH IT!!!

But can I borrow your Rev after I get tired of swimming?

Umm, we might want to start a poll on that one. Very Happy Laughing Twisted Evil

The "lift and float" are dangle-tastic. Its the fall out of the sky, crash landings, to swim, to wife in inflatable sailboat rescue that erases all steez. (I think it actually takes away from future legit steez but I'm not sure if you can generate "negative steez'. I guess anythings possible with a foil. LOL

I'm just poking fun though, you know I love to jab at you plus I have had an epic-ly shitty morning at the office.

Bottom line that most of us will agree on, fly whatever makes you happy. In the end, most of us could care less as long as your not crashing into us or the beach goers.

I wrapped up Jeff yesterday at Stevenson while we were both on REVs. I don't know what I'm doing though. Actually, I was just saying "hi" to Chris on the bank, and wasn't watching how close Jeff was to shore. BAD Adam.

I estimate at least 50 MegaWatts of negative steez are being generated by the friction of that board dragging on the footpath. Razz

Just kidding, that pic is so funny I bout bust a gut every time I see it. What a great since of humor. Whoever that is, I wanna hang with them.
