Looking to get local expertise on where to stay in La Ventana. I'm planning on going mid-December (I've heard the winds are good during this time of year?) and hoping to stay on the cheap. Any info would be much appreciated.
Cheers! |

Hey Colin!
First, define cheap. It's all pretty inexpensive there. Do you want to spend $25 per night, $50, $100?
Joanne & I went there in December 2 years ago. 11m wind every day. Good place to learn. Hook up with one of the downwinders. You can go forever... It's pretty cool while you're trying to get up on the board because you don't have to stop & walk upwind every 15 minutes.
Be aware there are definately some places you won't want to come in and land. Check with the locals and get to know the lay of the land first. Consider wearing booties.
I really enjoyed staying at Baja Joes. It was $100 per night for a room overlooking the ocean. |

Thanks Mike,
I found somewhere around the $60 range, which is kind of what I had in mind. Any input from anybody on gear to bring and what might be available to rent down there (if any)? |

I think you'd be happy with the gear you have. The wind is typically light in the late afternoon and everybody quits. You'd pretty much have the water to yourself with your 15m. The seas are gentler with the lighter winds too. It would be perfect for you to spend time getting better. Definitely bring your 11m too. Depending on how fast you progress, you might want to bring a smaller board as well as your Misfit 146. But I think you'll be happy with what you have. I wore a shorty wetsuit and was very comfortable. |

| I am thinking of driving to La Ventana around the same time to find some good wind and better weather for up to 3 months. Just starting to stand on my board so looks like a good place to learn. How are you getting there with all your gear? |
