Does this happen often? Does it happen at all? Can it cut the kite? Is it hard to get undone? How do you do it? Why doesn't North put a grenade pin to quick release the 5th if you cannot get it undone? Seriously looking at the North Rebel but this haunts me.

so most of the time when you wrap the fifth line when the kite inverts, to keep this from happening don't let the fifth line get slack.. make sure its tight when relaunching slowly let the fifth line out..this method also prevent the extra line from wrapping around other shit. yes the line can poss split the kite if it get tight. the fifth line is nice to have in light wind when the kite doesn't want to relaunch like some 4 line kites. but to try to prevent the kite from inverting i just hook up my leash suicide so it won't happen, you can still activate the 5th line manually in needed.. anyways yeah the rebel is a solid kite lots of range i taught on it all summer and flew it quite abit..

cheers!

Im sure that you should be able to modify your 5th line set up with a Wave-Grenade.

You are welcome to bring the bar by our shop to see if we might be able to help you modify your bar with a Wave-Grenade set up. If you do come by, just ask for Pepi, Nate or Mike and anyone of us should be able to help you out.

Thanks
Pepi

You could activate the wave grenade on the Rebel to keep from tearing the kite but I don't think you could relaunch it as it needs 5th line tension on the leading edge. Does anybody know if the Rebel will fly on 4 lines well enough to get back to the beach?

I don't recommend this.....with good regards to Pepi. If you have questions about 5th line issues please call me or PM. Techniques to clear 5th line are easy but too wordy(I type slow) as there are a 2 or 3 scenarios. 5th line is as much of a safety feature as it is a performance asset key to the Rebel and Vegas. I see way more kites spontaneously shred than I've ever see tear due to 5th line wraps. Most people I speak to that fly Rebels won't go back to 4 lines either because of performance and/or safety benefits. Best regards, Steve B (503)-886-9866 cell

you don't need a 5th line to relaunch the newer north kite, you just steer them out of the water

Keep waves in mind too. If you ride the ocean enough eventually your kite will get pummeled by some waves. A 5th line can rip it if it wraps around the kite.

dude kites rip, so don't be afraid of buying a kite because you are afraid of ripping it.. 5 or 4 line.. both can rip, just buy the kite you like the most (feel, looks, style..etc) and the one you get the best deal on.. every kite flies the same.. if you pull right the kite goes right and vise versa, so get the kite you like the feel of the most and for get about the horror stories we all have one...

Happy Kite buying

P.S. i have an 06 Vegas 10m if you want to buy it.. best kite north ever made!

I've been flying north for 3 years now and don't plan on changing anytime soon. The performance of the kites far exceeds the possiblility of wrapping the 5th line.

I've had my 5th line wrap around my kite, BUT I've never had it rip my kite. If the 5th line gets wrapped you can simply pull on the 5th line/ leash and it will unwrap, or at least move the 5th line to either side of the kite and you can get back to shore to fix your lines.

The secret to any kite in to keep tension in your lines. If you can do this the kite won't hindenburg and wrap your 5th line.

Good luck. I have some '08 Vegass for sale if your interestered
