Just returned from a week in Taiwan. Arrived just after the typhoon so the weather was calm and didn't seem to be any wind. Business went well so it looks like I will be returning.
So has anyone kited Taiwan? I found on the south of the islands the Taiwan Kitebaording Center, said they would rent me gear, but there was no wind.
Boracay in the Philippines has some nice YouTube footage and I think it is only a reletively short flight. Looks like the Philippines should have huge kiting potential.

Has anyone kited in the Philippines? Tips? Places? Any info would be appreciated. _________________ www.cautionkites.com

Hey Diggy......we have operations in Manila and fly some of our mgrs to Boracay for "award parties". It's a cool vibe, bilingual, affordable and I've always thought "damn I want to kite this place".
If you're on a lay-over seriously think about renting gear and grabbing a few days in Boracay to kill the winter blues. You and Terry would have fun!

I lived in the PI for two years when I was in the peace corps. Boracay is fairly easy to get to from manilla. It is one of the nicest resort places in the PI. They did have some serious issues with poo in the water but that was in 99 so they probably have something worked out by now.
I lived on another island not too far from there. I don't recall it being overly windy though. |

yo, i moved back to taiwan in march for a second expat tour so hit me up the next time you head this way. there's pretty much wind year round but for the most part the main season is Oct till May and the minor season is May to august with sept being the transition month w/ loads of typhoons. that typhoon you missed dropped 3 feet of rain in 3 days and there were winds of 80 knots so it's best that you came in after that thing.
in the winter you'll need a 5-9m and in the summer a 9-14m. the best spot is Mioali or hsinchu county which is the northern half of the island. In the south by Kaoshiung or Tainan it'll be lighter. Or if you really want to blow hit penghu island. but for the most part the winds blow 40 knots for weeks straight over there so it's harder to get out in a kite.
here's some vid from the local spot that i ride at...

boracay is pretty good as well but the season's much smaller, the winds flukey and it's harder to get to. but the parties are sweet. make sure you time it for a full moon party!! |
