| I like a little bit of debate. I don't think we should be too sensitive. Many of us are friends in real life and have no other means of regular communication other than this forum. Maybe we do need a Thunderdome.

I would love to see a section just for this.
PDXmonkeyboy could be the moderator. I know i would never get anything done because I would always be reading it.

Hmmmm... well it takes like 10 seconds to create a new forum so let me know.

I like it that everything that can be discussed has already been discussed at least once. You just have to search for it.

Well when there is a conflict it is the same group of people over and over again.
It is fun to watch it all go down - in a sick sort of way - but honestly, personal attacks should be off limits. People can disagree all they want and go back and forth - but personal attacks add nothing to discussion - the only thing they do is piss people off. A lot of flame wars would never start if a post was attacking an idea and not a person.
This is a general rule that applies to most all disagreements whether on the internet or in person. That could be a rule - we could add it the main forum or add it to Monkey Boy's Den of Chaos.
Like i said - the forum is great and sometimes I get a kick out of watching it all happen - but the vibe of nwkite.com should be good.
Maybe the new forum should be called nwshithole.com - that would be funny

I think we are pretty civil
You called yourself a nazi
thats a little out of line.
I would be the last person to want the old growth all removed
But I hate to see the rest of the world going down the shitter
to sastify our demand for wood
We have just went through the greatest surge in home building ever
and the forests of the world are hurting because of it.
I don't know of a country that has as much stewardship for the land as the U.S.
I'm sure some euros do but the amount of production is so small that it doesn't amount to anything
So saving it for the future is ok with me .
but the forest is not static and will do whatever happens
aftrer a hundred years of fire prevention the situation is out of hand.
I've been roaming the hills of Oregon since I could get to them
And I can say that the forestry of the old days was akin to logging the countryside with a sledgehammer ,dump everything into the creeks and wash it down to the mill.(a practice not done since the 50's)
Try to imagine all the trees were gone from the cascade foothills to the ocean (almost)
Still the beauty as we see now remains in spite of that.
Careful management and mulitiple use will save what is left of the forest .
When I see stumps I know that the trees were harvested with the care of a extremely valuable resource(a log truck load of old growth may have a $ value of 50K,which a third went to the local goverments) and a law (first in the world) that requires replanting.
In a couple years the area will be green and flourshing.
Wood is our most valuable asset in Oregon
the perfect renewable resource good for us and good for the planet
unlike stripping the world.(and leaving it)
The biggest winners in the recent shutdown of the U.S. National forest is the very Multi-nationals that are stripping Canada right now (Weyco)
so we can go to the home depot and find a 2x4 for a slider
So as you can tell I'm in favor of how it was before the shutdown ,local goverments flush with cash and great schools getting a third of the revenue,
superior highways with nobody on them , industry that is not in the city causing congestion .State of the art forestry
So after the big dog runs out of wood in the rest of the world I'm sure that it will be fashionable to harvest whats left here
not that I give a shit
I'll be dead
So pay more for the "green" 2x4 but know it comes from a place that old growth once was.
